Inkaterra La Casona Relais & Chateaux
Ranked #2 of 171 Hotels in Cusco
Certificate of Excellence

Without doubt this was the best hotel we stayed at during our month long holiday in Peru/Bolivia, arranged by Imagine Latin America, our second year with this company who again delivered a wonderful experience. The hotel is set just a few minutes walk from the centre of Cusco and all it's sites and restaurants but is located in a quiet plaza away from the main roads. We stayed here for four nights in total, and all the rooms were of an exceptional standard. The food and the service were first class and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The building has a fascinating history going back around 450 years. I would have no hesitation in staying here again if I should return to Cusco.

Dear guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write about your stay in our property.

Inkaterra has meticulously restored an 11-suite manor house, maintaining the original design and architecture around an open patio. Guests will appreciate the patina of time and tradition, as colonial furnishings and original murals blend with lavish contemporary comforts.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us, and hope to welcome you in your next visit!

By husband and I stayed 2 nights in a Plaza Suite at La Casona on our recent 3 week holiday in Peru--and absolutely loved it. (For comparison, we also stayed 1 night in the Presidential Suite and 2 nights in a junior suite at the Miraflores Park in Lima, 4 nights in a junior suite at the Hotel Rio Sagrado in Urubamba, 2 nights in a Presidential Suite at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, and 7 nights on the M/V Ria in the Iquitos Amazon.)

La Casona is DEFINITELY a boutique experience--just 11 rooms around the most beautiful and authentic courtyard we saw in Peru. We had drinks at the Palacio Nazarenas across the street, and we definitely preferred the intimacy of La Casona. Both are wonderful properties, but Nazarenas definitely felt more like a bigger chic hotel trying to emulate the historic nature we truly had at La Casona. And La Casona was half the price of Nazarenas, to boot! The Monasterio was just too big for us to even consider, even if it is a lovely and authentic feeling hotel.

Service was top notch at La Casona. Getting in touch with the hotel before arrival, on the other hand, was a bit problematic. It took getting into direct contact with Luisella, the GM, before we knew we were set with our arrangements (since I booked our trip myself and did not use a travel agent at all). Otherwise, everything was perfect.

La Casona, Nazarenas, and the Monasterio are literally off the same Nazarenas Square, so the location is superb for all three properties. It was an easy walk to all the sights in town.

The MAP Cafe is right next door, and we highly recommend it. Tremendous food--though we were fortunate to arrange their Cena del Oro 7 course pre-fixe, which was among our 3 favorite meals in Peru (tied with Astrid y Gaston and Central in Lima, in fact).

Breakfast was delicious, if a bit on the slower side--something we experienced throughout Peru but which did not in any way detract from our enjoyment.

If we were ever to return to Cusco. we most certainly would stay at La Casona again.

Room Tip: The Plaza Suite could be a bit noisy if you left the windows ajar to be cooler as we did, but otherw...

Dear guest,

We appreciate the time you took to write about your experience at our property.

Inkaterra La Casona operates as a private manor for a small limited number of guests, and as such is not open to the public, thus maintains its doors closed like a private residence. This property reflects the city’s mélange of cultures and traditions. A striking 16th century mansion — one of the first Spanish constructions in Cusco — occupied by the first conquistadores and their mestizo descendants.

Thank you for your lovely review and for staying at Inkaterra La Casona!

We were very impressed by all our chosen hotels on our 30 day holiday visiting Ecuador, Peru and Brazil but the Inkaterra La Casona ranked in the highest eschelon. We stayed 4nights in total divided by one night at Macchu Pichu.

La Casona is situated in the pretty Plaza Nazarenos - a very short and safe walk of 10 minutes from the main square in Cuzco - Plaza des Armes with its beautiful cathedral. It is located within a colonnial building that has been expertly and delightfully converted into a boutique hotel of 11 suites organised around an attractive central courtyard. The small number of rooms creates a special atmosphere of tranquillity within the building. Entry is through a large green door and your knock is promptly answered by the very attentive staff within.

This was probably our first and strongest impression. The staff and their service was truly excellent. They were friendly and attentive, helping to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. They always asked to help arrange excursions or arrange wake up calls.

We stayed in two rooms - 3 and 7. Both were immaculately clean and beautifully designed. There was plenty of space, extremely comfortable king-sized beds and amazing bathrooms. This was comfort and all the facilities that you would expect from a 5 star hotel.

The breakfasts were good but with such a small number of guests there was probably not the choice available at larger hotels. We did not eat in the Restaurant but enjoyed the snacks served in the spacious and comfortable lounge.

La Casona is a very different sort of hotel providing excellent service; excellent rooms and facilities within a special colonial atmosphere.

My husband and I and my daughter and her boyfriend spent several nights here before and after our Inka Trail trek. I didn't know what to expect from the hotels in Peru. I can tell you that La Casona ranks with the top hotels I have ever stayed at anywhere in the world. It is the private, personal connection and attention to every single detail the makes them stand out. It is in the best location, in the same plaza as the other two top hotels but it is small and personal. I weighed the other hotels carefully but I'm so glad I chose La Casona. The managers felt like family by the time we left. I couldn't wait to get back from Machu Picchu to spend one more night there. They have the service level that is the true distinction of a great hotel. They are never around when you want to be left alone but immediately attentive if you need anything. They will send someone right over to make you a fire at night that burns down just as you fall asleep. I hated to leave. Truly a hotel in keeping with the magic that is Cusco.

We stayed two nights separated by a trip to Machu Picchu at La Casona. It is a beautiful hotel that feels like a private residence. Without an open door, it's exclusive and secluded yet close to everything in town. I was ill my final night in Peru and thankfully the staff made sure to bring me tea and to call a doctor at 5am. I'm so glad I was at La Casona - they made me feel comfortable. The rooms are wonderful as are the beds

We spent a total of three nights at this property during our trip to Peru. It was, in a word, luxurious. La Casona probably ranks as one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. The hotel is richly appointed in both the public areas and in each of the rooms. Staff is extremely attentive and makes every effort to meet all of your needs during your stay. This is a unique property in that it is run like a private hacienda. There is little marking the hotel from the exterior and you must knock on heave wooden doors in order to enter the property. During our first stay, we had a room in the back of the courtyard - facing the front entry. It was very quiet. Our second room was on the second level and had a window opening to one of the streets and we heard quite a bit of street noise during the night. Both rooms had features such as a wood-burning fireplace, heated towel racks, deep tubs, etc. The breakfast was very nice - a buffet-style continental breakfast, with hot items to order. Only I ate dinner at the restaurant, and found that it was very good. My only comment about the restaurant is that it is extremely formal. We loved Cusco but remember that it is at high altitude and there can be some ramifications. We noted that a lot of the guests seemed to suffer from altitude sickness. The hotel staff was very attentive to these issues. Inkaterra does an amazing job yet again!

La Casona is simply the best hotel we have ever stayed at. When you arrive on the nice plaza nazarena, you would never guess that the large door is hiding such a gem. But as soon as the door opened, I felt immediately under the charm of this beautiful Spanish house. It opens on a splendid courtyard, beautifully lit and scented with burning perfumes. We were immediately shown to our bedrooms. And I just could not believe it. Everything was so simple and elegant at the same time. The rooms are large and so are the bathrooms. The decoration is so exquisite and classy. The open fire in the rooms, Candles. The towels are so fluffy and the bathrobes so soft. So are the sheets. The charm goes on in the morning as you open the shutters on the plaza. I could I have spent hours just looking at the life going on down there: both a nice tranquil and lively atmosphere. It is also ideally located. Just a few steps from the Plaza de armas and the restaurants. I do not want to say more, because I do not want to ruin your experience. Pure class.
