We took the Hiram Bingham train from Machu Picchu to the Sacred Valley. It's a gilded age dining car with a nice set dinner with a couple of choices for entrees, but the food is nothing special. The train leaves at dark; so one doesn't have any view of the spectacular landscapes. And the $280 price is way too high. Instead, take an afternoon train, see the landscapes, and have dinner after you arrive. Also, if you stay at the Sanctuary Lodge in Machu Picchu and have to check out at 11 am, you are stuck with only a very crowded "day room" in which to stay until 4;30, when the bus to meet the Hiram Bingham train leaves for Agua Caliente. much better to leave earlier, as suggested above.
