“Fantastic place to stay in Cusco”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

I stayed here in July 2013 for 4 nights. The hotel is located away from the main Plaza de Armas but that is one of the main selling points. You want to party in Cusco but when you're done it's great to come back to a quiet place. The free included breakfast and the supply of coca tea were great. The staff is very helpful and resourceful. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and hot water was always available. Free WiFi was decent (comparable to other hotels I've stayed in Peru). If I go back to Cusco I will definitely be staying here again.

Room Tip: Book early. Ask for a room in one of the higher floors especially in the winter. My room was on a lo...

We flew into Cuzco for a 4 day stay to acclimatize prior to going on the Lares 3day trek. This hotel was quite lovely. Nellie and her partner so helpful in every way recommending good day tour to the Sacred valley and places to eat in the evening. The rooms were great and the view from the breakfast room truly memorable and the food fresh and tasty. The climb to the pension is a good hike hence preparatory to the 'other hike in the Andes. You need to be fairly fit or take a taxi.

We prepaid also thru Pay Pal. Pension Alemana held on to our baggage for our trek and helped us out upon return when we decided to go straight on to the floating islands after a quick switch In clothing.

Room Tip: Ask for a more recently renovated room as bigger bathroom/shower.

This was my third time in Cusco and Pension Alemana was very nice and affordable. They picked us up from the airport and the taxi driver was friendly that he even gave showed us good places to eat and see. When we got to the Hostel, we met Nelly who was always attentive. The rooms were clean and spacious. Hot water all day! The breakfast each morning was delicious and you can't beat the view from the cafeteria. They always have a breakroom with a stove and fridge available for all guests. Fresh fruits and tea also available at any time. The hostel is about 10 minutes walking distance from the Plaza, and we always took San Blas because Paddy's (the Irish bar) is located at the end of the street by the Plaza. Even though Nelly told us that the wifi may be low in some rooms, we had no problem getting connected, and the signal was strong on both of our rooms (we spent a day in Machu Picchu so we got a different room on our return). We enjoyed it!

Loved this place ... rooms more than adequate for our needs, comfortable beds, spacious, showers/bathrooms big enough for 2. Landscaped gardens as you walk through the hotel and really pretty views from the balconies. We stayed here Sept '12 and a year later we remember it fondly and would recommend if asked. Breakfasts were a highlight, a good selection with eggs however you like 'em and freshly baked rools, served in a warm cozy room with a wood burning stove. Efficient same day laundry service offered. Good location as well.

My husband and I stayed here for a week and we loved it.

Booking & Services: I booked directly with them on-line with no hassles whatsoever. The Trip Advisor website said there was no availability on the dates we wanted, but there was when I contacted them directly by email. So check with them !! I pre-paid in full using paypal.
We had our laundry done several times through the hostal for 6soles/kg (which was an easy no fuss process for us) and had no problems. They can also book tours, taxis or drivers, whenever you request them... and also an on-call doctor who comes to your room if you need it (US$40).

Transport to/from Pension Alemana: We arrived on the bus to Cusco, so I asked how much it should cost from the bus station to them (8-10 soles) This was very helpful to know when the taxi driver tried to charge us double that price...We paid the same price to the airport when we left. Due to roadworks, we had to walk a few hundred metres to the hostal (which is not their fault and didn't bother us).

The room: Our room was fantastic and overlooked the city's beautiful views on the 3rd floor. The room was spacious and comfortable. I don't mind sleeping in single beds. The beds were rather firm, but the room was quiet with no street noise !!, so we slept really well. The bathroom was spacious and had everything that you need (even a hair dryer which we didn't see in most places). The heater was great for night time in winter. The water was always hot. Our room was cleaned daily with clean towels if we wanted them.

Breakfast: All you could eat, nice breakfast. Coffee, orange juice, eggs however you like them, jam, bread, cheese, muesli/cereal and yoghurt.

Staff: so helpful, friendly and couldn't do enough for us to make our stay a comfortable one. The ladies on reception and at breakfast were really lovely. This place is run very professionally. Ladies on reception had great English so no issues with communication.

Location: We loved the location because it is quiet and only a 5 minute walk to San Blas Square and 10-15 minutes to the main Plaza de Armas. There are plenty of restaurants & cafes close-by, as well as art galleries & shops (and laundries).

We will certainly stay here again next time we are in Cusco and recommend it to our family and friends.

I don't understand the fuzz about the place, to me it was pretty average. Good size room, less than average bathroom, average breakfast, the construction outside made an absolute mess to get there and the mud in our shoes was awful. Don't get me wrong, I had a good night sleep but other than that I think it's an average place. I liked my stay in Suites La Morada way better.

Probably it's not possible to understand the fuzz about a place if one has ever stayed there and if someone probably only want to do a favor to a competitor. We have carefully checked our registers and nobody from Slovakia named Pedro (or Peter in Slovakian) stayed here during the days the main pipe of the public water supply was changed in the street in front of the building.

If you arrival from Lima, should minimum to change USD 100 to Sol for taxi fare otherwise, you need to wait to SIX O'clock after money exchange shop was opened. Catched a taxi from airport to Hostal from Sol. 40 lowered to Sol. 25 after long negotiation at several airprot counter. Taxi only can arrived to the near plaza area lower of the Hostal as construction job was performed on the upper road. In early morning, garbage tuck and garbages were placed on the road, when you are holding a big luggage, it would be wheeled and crossed to the dirty and smelly musty road. Walked seven to ten minutes can go to the Hostal. It was a hard time on arrival but can use a side stair road down to town after check-in. Hostal is good and valued. Wifi only good at lobby and work-shop area. In-room wifi was not stable. Internet computer speed at workshop is very slow. Room with hair-dryer, heater, good view to garden, breakfast is good as well. Extra DUVET is need for female guest as quiet cold in winter time even heater was switched-on. Sufficient baths, hands, foot towels and changed daily. Shampoo & soaps are provided. Taxi back to airport is Sol. 10. to Perurail Train station is Sol. 10 as well. From Plaza the Armas back to hostal area around 4-5 Sol. but need to walk in this period. of time. If choose this comfort pretty hostel, really consider the road construction and your piece of heavy luggage prior arrival.

Room Tip: Room was clean and tidy. Quite room with pretty view facing Cusco resident area. Friendly staff bu...

Dear Winfield T,
thanks for your review! Sorry, about the inconvenience caused by problems out of our reach. The construction works of the public water supply company, in order to change the main supply pipe, happily have finished since more than a month and the access in taxi to the hotel entrance is again very easy. About the slow internet we have great news. The new optical fiber cable which connects Cusco with Lima we finally increased our speed from 5 to 20 MB. Sorry you didn’t, find the extra blankets and you didn’t ask for an extra duvet .
Best regards
