“Excellent Guess Service”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

My friend and I stayed in Rey Antares for 3 nights in July 2013. They were excellent when it came to helping us. They allowed us to check in early because we arrived to Cuzco at 5AM. They also held our luggage while we did a 4 day trek to Machu Picchu. However, this is not a fancy hotel; it's very small and it's located across from San Pedro market. The area is a bit dirty and loud. One good thing is that it is located just a few blocks away from Plaza Mayor (main plaza). If you are traveling on a budget and are not looking for too much luxury, this is your place.

When we told the receptionist that we were on our honeymoon she changed us to a large triple room for the same price which was very nice of her. The room was spacious and overlooking the street. The bathroom was fine with a proper hot shower and generally it was comfortable for the price. Breakfast was the usual but at least they serve you real coffee as oppose to muddy water. You can use the computer and internet free for the first 25 minutes I think (or 15?) and then you pay. The receptionists were always very helpful and friendly and when we asked about paying they said 'Don't worry, you can pay later' which is nice because it means they trust you. Also, we went to Aguas Calientes for 2 nights and then came back. We made this second reservation once we were had checked in in Cusco and had seen the hotel etc..and were suprised to come back and find they had given us the same triple room again.
About the location, I thought it was perfect because it is about 10-15 minutes walk from the central Plaza de armas and right opposite the San Pedro market. I didn't have any problems with noise or smells from the market as some people mentioned. I certainly didn't smell anything inside the hotel! And to be honest, markets start up quite late it seems in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia so it didn't wake me up. Furthermore, for me, being near a market was a plus because I love wandering round and taking photos. Mercado San Pedro is a typical market which won't disappoint you for photo opportunities and behind the hotel there is a street market which is also excellent and not full of tourists.

Travelled with a group and family! Located directly across from a market and on the corner of a busy street! The location is NOT very SAFE. There are ALOT of pick pockets in this area so be careful. (A friend of mine got his passport stolen a couple years ago). A few of my friends on different occasions caught people trying to touch, unzip and bump into their backpacks and purses. Wear your back pack in front. FOR the PRICE the HOTEL IS SECURE and very clean. The upstairs patio has amazing views of Cusco! The showers were hot with strong pressure! Basic breakfast, coffee is good! If you stay in a room with an outside window, beware it is very noisy all night! The staff is extremely nice!

The staff at the Antares made our stay easy, pleasant, and wonderful. We stayed 2 nights before our Inca Trail experience and another night after, both rooms offered the same accommodations. The showers were warm, the beds comfortable, and hosts wonderful. Rita did a great job of translating for us and arranging drivers both from and to the airport. The location is directly across from the market and a short walk from the two main squares. Close, but not too close. My sister and I both felt safe and comfortable during our stay.

Room Tip: Ask to be on the upper right side of the hostel (facing the front) for a quitter room.

Went over this hotel and stayed for two nights! The staff is really friendly and even they don't speak English very well they try their best. Breakfast is amazing full (scrambled eggs, fresh fruit juice, bread, coffee or tea, butter and jelly) Although it might seem a small breakfast you actually get full of energy. The location is good, just some block away from Plaza de las Armas and just across of Mercado San Pedro. Rooms are really nice! During winter time you have enough covers to fight the cold of the night and the shower provides really nice water.

Room Tip: If you get in the morning before 12 and you don't have anything to do, please ask the front desk...

we are a family of 5 people, we stayed 2 nights and we appreciated very much this accomodation. They were very friendly and extremely helpful. The location is great, near the very centre of Cuzco. Breakfast is very good and it's served also early in the morning. Rooms were clean and quite big.

Room Tip: do not take a room on the street, it could be noisy.

We paid $49/night at this property. Pros-absolutely lovely, gentle staff, $5 for airport pick up, wifi (though we couldn't connect one night,) FANTASTIC orange juice for breakfast, hot showers, clean rooms Cons-spartan is a fair assessment...no extras but as long as you are prepared for that its okay. We were on 4th floor (no elevator) which really was fine by day 2, once we acclimated to the altitude (we live at sea level.)

Room Tip: not all rooms have a space heater...we had one...and we needed it. Could make a request...
