We spent 5 nights at Amaru 2. The rooms were nice with good views of the city. The staff were really helpful no matter what queries we threw at them. And we completely disagree with the review below - the breakfast was the best we'd had in Peru and Bolivia! Really great way to start the day!

Amaru II Hostel is quite cute. The room was really spacious and comfortable. The hotel has a very nice city view. Its localization is also good, walking distance from Plaza de Armas. However, the breakfast could be (much) better. I left the restaurant hungry.

The staff at Amaru II was so helpful, friendly and courteous. They bent over backwards to help in getting bus reservations and tickets and gave us much information about attractions in the area. The breakfast was the best we had in Peru- eggs, wonderful fresh warm bread, fresh fruit with or without yogurt, freshly squeezed juice and coffee and tea. The patio area is charming and overlooks the city. It is an easy walk from the plaza and located in the charming San Blas neighborhood. We will return.

My wife, two kids, and I spent two nights at Amaru II and we liked the place immediately! The San Blas neighborhood is a terrific place from which to see the city-- close to the Plaza, restaurants, museums, and Qorikancha.
We had a quadruple room, overlooking the lovely courtyard, and it was clean, light-filled, and beautiful. With so much glass, it was also a little cool at night, but the many blankets on each bed took care of that. Because our room hung over the courtyard and sitting area (free coca tea), it was noisy at times, but that's largely due to the guests sharing the hotel at the time; the hotel staff are quiet and helpful, and breakfast was nicely done.
We left much of our luggage for almost a week as we moved up the valley and then back for another night, and it was kept safe and sound, at no charge. Our family enjoyed our stay!

I was very excited to stay at this location during our trip to Cusco, but our experience did not live up to the expectations we had based on the other Trip Advisor reviews. The common areas of the hostal are beautiful and match the lovely pictures posted on their website. However, our room was not what we were expecting. It wasn't as clean as expected (the shower curtain was growing something) and when we told the front desk we had no hot water, they said we "have to just let it run for about seven minutes before it gets warm." We were a married twosome but we were put in a room with three different beds, as well, and didn't have some of the amenities other travelers are mentioning in their reviews.

The staff was friendly and helpful in arranging tours/answering questions. However, the biggest negative was that when we went to check out, we were told we could pay for the room with a credit card but our other charges (we had done one of the tours they send you info about in their confirmation email) had to paid in cash--and it amounted to 500 soles. The ATM machines don't even give you S/500 at a time so we certainly didn't have that much on us. While our cab driver waited, we had to run a few blocks over to make a USD withdrawal and then rush to the airport. If they had told us that in advance, we would have made sure to make a large withdrawal earlier, but it was an unfortunate surprise at check out.

Breakfast was delicious and is served restaurant-style, so make sure you allot enough time for that.

Nice place to crash. We stayed here 2 days before our 4 day hike to Machhu Picchu. Left our luggage here also met some nice co travelers.. Location is real neat and walkable to the city center.. Lot of culture and locals to interact with.. Nice views and nice breakfast

Room Tip: The room with a long balcony in the end has a good view to the garden and the town

A pretty smaller B&B on a Cusco hillside in the artistic section of San Blas with beautiful views. Originally an hacienda, the building gleams with vast wooden detail that added charm. The inner courtyard was filled with flowers and hummingbirds. Staff were friendly, personable and went out of their way to be helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable and breakfasts were tasty and filling. A short walk downhill to Plaza des Armas in the city center. It's either an invigorating walk uphill or a cheap (under $2) cab back. It is listed as a backpacker hostel but it certainly felt more upscale than that. Would highly recommend this to people who prefer B&B's to big hotels. A good deal.

Room Tip: The rooms on the upper floor are bigger and brighter.
