“climb those stairs”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013

anyone who's ever stayed here knows that climbing the staircase from the center of cusco to the loki hostel is a good way to get acclimated to the altitude in the andes. the buses from Puno all arrive at 4 am, but the staff at Loki is prepared...they will cheerfully give you an open bed and let you shower and take a nap until the official check-in around noon. the rooms are nice, the water is hot, the food is good and plentiful. sleep is the only thing hard to come by, as the music rocks til 2 am and the crowd takes at least an hour to disperse.
it's a great place to meet fellow travelers, but most likely the sort who are moving from one party to another.
wifi is sketchy.
all in all the place is nice and well run, and deserves its reputation.

Room Tip: small rooms with private bath are furthest from the bar, so offer the best chance at quiet

Go there if you want to party, meet other amazing travelers or if you just want to play ping pong. Its really a very fun place and if you don't only come for the sleeping part Loki is the right choice. The staff is friendly and the showers are hot and clean. The WiFi didn't work very well unless you hung out at the bar. Location is good and great views but you have to climb some steps to get there.

Having gleaned that the party atmosphere in Loki La Paz was right up our street, we decided to spend a minimum of five nights in the Cusco hostel. After sightseeing in Cusco city centre, Loki was a great place to come back to, with wonderful food (big variety, reasonably priced) and a wide choice of drinks offers to get you in the party spirit, any day of the week. Despite the wild atmosphere, there are plenty of rooms in designated quiet zones so resting after Machu Picchu was no problem. It is located around 4 blocks from the Plaza, and there is a steep hill up to the hostel, but if you're doing the Inca Trail it's a piece of cake. Great hostel for young travelers, highly recommended for a guaranteed good time.

Room Tip: Rooms near the bar not recommended if you value your shut eye.

This is a fantastic place to stay!! Beds are great, bathrooms clean and it has the best bar.
Staff is nice and seriously the party at the bar is amazing. There's also a really nice area to relax and chill. Can't wait to go back.

I slept only one night in Loki, after coming back from Aguas Calientes, completely tired from Machu Picchu. But I can surely say that Loki is a huge hostel, with a beautiful big courtyard and another bit smaller one in the back, with large wooden rooms, big beds but small bathrooms. I could barely fit in the shower :P But hey, it was ok, we're world travelers, we can fit anywhere, right?
Prices? Well you can get better price in Cusco and location is not that great, comparing to Plaza de Armas of course. The street in front of the hostel is being repaired now, so it's all dirty, muddy and with holes... and it's going down hill...

Room Tip: Don't take the cheapest room cause it's somewhere in the basement.

I'm just going to say this once, the walk up is terrible. I had to stop about 2-3 times during that walk up everytime. LOL sometimes I just take a cab to the top of the hill and walk down.

ON ANOTHER NOTE.... I ended up staying at the girls dorm only, which was fantastic. and the bathrooms were fantastic also! It was a private bathroom and only girls in the dorm had access to it. and they had HOT WATER TO SHOWER!!! The bathrooms were pretty clean and I believe they check in everyday to ensure that the toilet paper, garbage, etc. is all taken care of. (I only stayed for 2 days and one more night after my inca jungle trek so that may not be too accurate about them checking everyday... they did when I was there though).

The beds were pretty comfortable and it wasn't as cold as many other places in Cusco to stay at in the night. The "closet boxes" are pretty good, but it can't store very much depending on your luggage size.

The bar is pretty much central to LOKI. It is the only place to get free wifi in the hostel, the hammocks, the parties, the food, the pool table, etc. Luckily, the food is pretty amazing and great value too! I know that when people travel, they like to try different foods and they like to opt out for different restaurants around the city... but just make sure you look at LOKI's menu first before paying double the price at the plaza. Also, if you are really under budget, LOKI gives free breakfast everyday to everyone staying there. It's not much but you get two pieces of bread and a small banana. This option should really be considered if you're on a budget and don't want to spend a large amount on breakfast.

OH, and I got very sick during my Inca Jungle Trek and asked the front desk if there was anyone who could help me with my bags when checking out. They just told me that option wasn't available, which kinda sucked. I woulda paid cause I was that sick.

Awesome hostel, so much fun, good food and cheap drinks. The hostel also has a travel agency that comparatively provides the best deals for any adventure, so if you have time, book when you get to Loki.

I stayed at a few hostels in Cusco and this by far was the funnest, especially for a solo traveller.

It was colder in the rooms than it was outside at times, but after all it was winter. Keeping warm under the covers was no problem.

The hostel is up a steep hill... keeping me fit and lean on my partying holiday ;)

Room Tip: In the winter, if you get a dorm room, get one with a bathroom and shower in it. It's just so co...
