these ruins were just okay. the ones in Olly were better. We went after just arriving in cuzco, and it was quite the workout in the altitude.

We took in a visit to Moray and Moras (reviewed separately) and both were highlights of our trip to Peru. The Inca ingenuity of creating a place like Moray as a testing ground for growing plants at different altitudes and humidities is simply awesome. Thousands of Inca workers created this spot, only to see forcefully abandoned by the Spanish who viewed it as an Incan pagan religious site. A must see!

Interesting history and stunning views. We paid 25 soles for this and the salt flats. The only criticism i would say the tour felt a bit rushed.

Getting to Moray is a long hike if you walk from Maras (where you can get public transport to from Urubamba), but the only other way is by taxi (or horse). It should cost around S25 return from Maras, and remember to negotiate with the taxi driver to drop you off at the bus stop on the way back so you can go back to Urubamba/Cusco afterwards. Unless you're planning on taking the long walk back down, you'd need to get a return taxi rather than one way. Entrance to Moray costs S10 or can be part of the 10 day tourist ticket bought for S130 (S70 with ISIC card) from Cusco. Private taxi tours from Urubamba to Moray and Salineras cost around S80, but aren't really 'tours' but simply 'rides'. These taxis can be found outside the gas station in Urubamba, and you can probably negotiate for them to pick you up from your hotel.

There are no signs in Moray to explain what it's all about; this is pretty standard for archaelogical sites in Peru. From what I understand, as with many terraces from the Incan ages, each of the levels seen in Moray was used to grow crops to determine which micro climates were best for which crops. Reading a guide before hand may be useful.

what we did to get there was to take a taxi from Urubamba to Moray then to Salinas and to Cuzco. it cost us 90 soles total for around 8h trip per whole taxi.

it is completely different from other Incan ruins in the Sacred Valey - this Incan site was actually used as a laboratory for growing plants and checking their harvest. as you can see on the photos - really amazing site.
