“So cool”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

The salt mines were so cool, like nothing I had ever seen before. Would definitely recommend visiting them along with the Moray terraces.

“Salt in the Hills”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

I had previously seen a video of the salt mines and it was great to actually see them in operation and appreciate the difficulties under which the locals operate. This is an interesting place as it is no where near the sea, the salt comes from the runoff of the mountains.

Access to the salt pans is via a private road with a fee applied by the owner of the property and also another fee to actually enter the site and view the operations. However these are not expensive.

The trip in and out calls for concentration by the driver/tour operator as the roads are dirt, windy, narrow and very steep. You can see the works in operation and how the salt is collected and carried(50kg) on the backs of bare footed salt workers. If you wish there are plenty of shops selling all types of salts(including pink salt), foods, drinks and the usual tourist nick nacks. Well worth the visit.
