“Interesting site - worth a stop”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

I saw this on the back end of a trip to Moray (contact KB Tours about a mountain bike ride starting at Moray, then riding all downhill to Salinas) and liked it.

On the surface it's pretty straightforward: highly salinated water comes from the spring, sits in pools where the water evaporates, the salt is harvested.

The scale is that I found visually striking: it's a small canyon valley that really is filled with these pools. I'm not great photographer but the contrast between the brown dirt and the white of the salt pools is really stunning.

Plus, I scored points on the home front by buying my girlfriend bath salts.

“Great place off the beaten track”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

We visited the salt mines as part of a day tour to Moray with Condor travel. I looked at photos before our trip, but they just don't do it justice. This place is amazing! It looks like a patchwork quilt of little salt ponds, in various colours from white to chocolate.

Well worth visiting.

“An amazing sight”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

It reminded me of pictures of Cappadoccia in Turkey, literally hundreds of individually owned salt pans stretching down the hillside like a patchwork, also an opportunity to buy salt and herbs that you won't get elsewhere

“Salt Mines”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

Still in use today for country wide use. These salt mines are above ground and tended as they were hundreds of years ago. A modern day version of terraced mining.

“Salt terraces in Sacred Valley Peru.”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

Amazing that these terraces are still utilized as source of salt.Built on the steep slopes of the mountains overlooking Sacred Valley on the route to the stae start of the Inca Trail. Peru is fascinating.
