I'm not sure how, but I think we got the best room in the house: Room 215, at the top corner of the back courtyard. Windows along two walls with stunning views over the red tile rooftops of Cusco and the hills beyond. A comfortable "matrimonial" with an additional single, lovely hardwood floors, and a clean tiled bathroom with a strong hot shower! The walls could perhaps use a fresh coat of paint, but there's really nothing to complain about here! Good breakfasts in the morning and friendly helpful service at the front desk.

Amaru is generally a quiet place but does get some neighbourhood noise: nothing extreme and nothing light sleepers can't remedy with a set of ear plugs (which if you're like me are a traveller's best friend anyhow). Ask for a room in the back courtyard. The gardens are lovely and home to a resident hummingbird (linger a little and you'll see him). Great location in San Blas about three or four blocks from the main plaza and conveniently just around the corner from delicious Jack's Cafe! It was a pleasure to stay and relax here on our last four nights in Peru.

Amaru Hostel is a very nice property located within easy walking distance of many of Cusco's main attractions. The hostel and its grounds are immaculately clean and well cared for. The rooms are comfortable and have ensuite bathrooms. It's more of a nice hotel than a hostel. Staff is accommodating. As others have noted, wifi is best near the lobby; the included breakfast is very good. I'd stay there again should I ever find myself in Cusco.

Although we stayed at Amaru Hostal for one night only, we were impressive by its garden and services from the staff. It is really unexpected to have a small balcony with chairs outside each room. The garden and yard are planted with colourful flowers which make the hostal becomes cozy and lively. The stafff at the reception are helpful. I have to send our special thanks to Jose Lovon who was very helpful on providing information of Macchu Picchu and train tickets. Jose was friendly and could speak in good English. What a pity that we did not take a photo with him. The hostal is very closed to the main square and there are a lot of shops and restaurants around the hostal. The restaurant for breakfast is also nice. I recommend this hostal to anyone who need cozy hostal in Cusco.

The main draw of this hotel is the location. It is amazing, so close to the Plaza de Armas. In a very touristy, safe, well lit at night area. The staff are very nice and help you with all you need, and there is always free coca tea and the wifi is fine (in the common area). The free breakfast is very nice, you get a fruit salad with yoghurt and cereal and an egg. They'll hold your luggage for you when you go to Macchu Picchu. Only two drawbacks: it's pretty loud. There's always someone leaving early in the morning to go trekking, and the staff starts cleaning really early. The room we stayed in after our MP trip was on the bottom floor and it's quite loud with people moving in the room above you. But that being said, I think this is probably a factor in every building, and every hostel, in Cusco, unless you're at a 5 star hotel. So I would not say it was a reason to not stay at Amaru, just something to be aware of. Also, it was quite cold in the rooms. We were there in the end of April. They do offer little portable heaters to rent which work quite well though. I would stay here again for the location, the clean rooms, and the helpful staff.

Room Tip: Stay on the top floor so you don't get noise from guests above you

My friend and I stayed there a few nights ago after having a bad taste in our mouths from another hostel down the street. Needless to say we found this place much better suited for enjoying your time spent in Cusco. The rooms were nice and clean and a great location just a block away from Plaza de Armas and very close to many good restaurants. I loved the hot showers and very good breakfast offered before 10am. I will definitely stay here again thank you all.

This was our first hotel in Peru. We stayed two nights, not consecutive as we went to Machu Picchu in between. They kept our extra luggage at no cost in a secured area. This hotel is great, very clean, and in a great spot, only a few minutes walk from Plaza de armas. You can walk to everywhere in the touristy part of Cusco, including to Sacsayhuaman (but don't do it on your first day if you're feeling the altitude). The staff was very friendly and always ready to help. During the day, they busy around cleaning the place, you can tell they care. The breakfast (inlcuded) was awesome and complete, including fruits and yogourt, egg, tea/coffee and juice. They have wifi internet and free coca tea at all time. The view is great and the rooms are quiet and clean. We always had very hot water.

Room Tip: There are two areas, inner court and "outside" court (kind of the back of the hotel but no...

We stayed there for a night before heading of to the Inca trail, but we had a great stay. We stayed on the top floor overlooking Cusco, and really enjoyed that view. The room was clean and comfortable, nice wood everywhere. We were a 5 minute walk from the action. I would recommend this hostel to my friends.
