This place is so nice, $55/night with one free airport pick up. The room we have was at 2nd floor, with an attic with 2 Chairs and a table, you can see the mountains from the attic. The room is clean, bed is confortable with a clean smell.

Very close to the Plaza de Arma, the staff is very friendly. The yard has a lot of plants. Only down thing is they don't have WIFI in the room, only in Public area.

Breakfast was included consistently bread, tea, juice, fruit & yogurt, and an egg. Tasty & adequate.

Think of this more as a boutique hotel than a hostel. It was by far the nicest place we stayed (on a budget) in Peru. The views are quite good, and the building itself is very attractive. It is also spotlessly clean, and we saw staff taking care of the place every day (repainting, cleaning, weeding, etc).

We booked online and had some trouble paying the deposit but ended up getting it to work through Western Union. Paid the remainder in US cash upon arrival. Staff was always available and helpful during our stay. Most of them spoke English quite well. Breakfast was consistently bread, tea, juice, fruit & yogurt, and an egg. Tasty & adequate.

The bedroom & bathroom were cozy and clean. It was a little cold at night so we rented the electric space heater for $3/day. I don't think it did much to warm the room, but it was nice to stand by after a shower!

The location is very good - just a 5 minute walk to the Plaza de Armas. Lots of good restaurants nearby (Jack's Cafe is literally 30 seconds away). Easy walking to all the other attractions (the mercado, museums, the cathedral, etc).

Bottom line: a comfortable, value-priced place to stay with easy access to all the downtown historical attractions.

We had 2 separate rooms between the four of us before and after the Inca trail and it was a beautiful place and a great comfort especially after the hike. The staff was very accomodating and helpful. The location is great (if you don't mind the hill). A great bakery nearby, walking distance to the plaza de armas, in a great neighborhood of San Blas, etc.

This is the second time I've stayed there. First time I was on my own, this time with my wife.
Utterly charming, totally helpful staff, great value for money, much more like a hotel than a hostel.
Breakfast is great. Toast, bread, eggs, fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal, coffee, tea, fresh juice.
Quaint rooms, beautiful flowered garden area, sun-drenched during the morning and midday periods.
They'll organize all your trips if you want them to, or help you with the ones you've sorted out yourself.
Unless you want to pay twice or three times the price, this is the best joint in town!

We stayed 3 nights in June. The first room we had was on the ground level facing the courtyard. It was small and freezing at night. We were surprised that they charged $3 more per night to get a heater. We complained and asked for a better room. The next day we switched to a room at the back on the second floor. This one was bigger and had a high ceiling, but it was still freezing at night. I hated to get out of the shower and be cold.

I agree with the previous post which said that there was no indoor common area. We also stayed across the street at Hospedaje San Blas which had a cozy common area.

We thought breakfast was good compared to other hotels we stayed at. The bread was always fresh. The breakfast room was freezing. Even the staff was wearing fleeces and scarves.

Amaru was in a good location, had a very pretty courtyard with great views of Cusco. Our room was spacious with comfortable beds, but very cold and had very poor lighting. The portable heater for $3 / night did not help much. The bathroom was clean, but had no hot water line on the sink. The shower water was warm, but had no pressure whatsoever. The breakfast room was also freezing and had a boring breakfast. Although Amaru was pretty with nice rooms, I can't recommend it because I require a decent shower...

Room Tip: If you don't care about a decent shower than almost everything else was nice about this hotel...

Frankly after all the positive reviews abou this place I was disappointed.
It’s centrally located, clean, has a charming atmosphere with a flowered courtyard and nice view but it has several drawbacks. It gets dark at 6pm in the mountains which means it gets cold immediately so you cannot sit outside. We are no longer at an age where we go to bars at night and in the evening we missed having an indoor common area with table and chairs or sofa where we could sit. The only alternative after dinner was to go to our room. The Hostal has a large breakfast room that could be used as a common area but unfortunately this is locked up and used only for breakfast. Our rooms were small, as were the beds and definitely not made for tall people and the lighting was very poor, not enough to read by, and it was not possible to get reading lamps on loan. The rooms were also very cold at night and although we rented a space heater for $3,- a day, they worked poorly and we were cold most of the time. Breakfast was boring, we ate there 5 times and there was no variety: eggs, yougurt and bread, that’s it. A bit of variety would have been nice. Also, they have no cold drinks to purchase. They do sell beer but it is not refrigerated and it would have been nice when coming back from a long hike in the afternoon, when it was still hot outside, to drink something cold
