“Perfect base for exploring Cusco”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

San Agustin is situated within 5 minutes walking distance of the cathedral and main square. The hotel is quaint and quirky with a nice seating area. Our room was away from the main road it was clean, the beds were comfortable the bathroom included a hairdryer and there was free use of the safety deposit box. The only negative is that the room could get quite cold but there is a small electric heater that you can use. The breakfast had plenty of choice and the coffee was good.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room situated away from the main road so we found it to be very quiet.

The only downside to this hotel was the noise! The location was great, the hotel was very nice, very clean, the staff was very nice, the shower had the best water pressure I think I've had anywhere, breakfast was ok, but the walls were paper thin. Over 3 nights in the hotel we had 2 different rooms and sleepless nights in both, even with earplugs in. There was a disco across the street going loud until 5am, and cars & horns honking all night long. We could hear every word spoken in hallways and nearby rooms. The hotel itself is very nice, just don't plan on a good night's sleep.

Hotel ambiance was a nice South American interior. Great location and ideal to walk around the city. The breakfast buffet was good but lacking service. We saw only one person, which resulted in the waiting game to have any breakfast foods or beverage refilled.

If you want a good night's rest, do not get any room by the street, like my husband and I did. I do not know of how the other room accommodations were but ours was a noisy one! Our window was overlooking the main street and even if it was closed shut, it did not stop us from hearing buses and car engines with horns that tooted all night long. We could even smell the diesel fumes and feel the vibrations of the trucks while we tried to sleep. We woke up very very very tired and had to head out to hike up to Macchu Picchu that early morning, ugh.

The bathroom could have used more counter space and more hanging spaces for clothing and towels. The room was very plain and small but it sufficed and the plumbing worked well. The room was freezing cold and when we plugged in the heater, the plug slowly fell out during the night, and we woke up, not only tired but freezing cold.

Room Tip: Nice hotel but I cannot recommend it or stay there again. My friend stayed at the Hotel Monasterio...

Convenient location, near the square, churches restaurants... Rooms were clean, bed comfortable. Bathroom is small. Somewhat noisy in the evening and morning, but not too bad. Breakfast was adequate. Staff was friendly.

I stayed in this hotel on a Gate 1 Tour. I HIGHLY recommend upgrading your hotels if you go with Gate 1. On the first night, I stayed in a room near the street. I was awakened by shaking that I thought was an earthquake. In addition, the windows facing the street would shake every time a car would go by. In the morning, I spoke to 2 other people who had the same experience. (Turns out the 'shaking' was made by the boiler room) We all requested quieter rooms and got them. It was much better in these rooms but the hotel could also use some updating. The food in the restaurant and the service was good. The location is close to all of the major sites.
