We stayed here on our last night in Peru, before heading back to catch our flight from Lima the next day. It was great. The whole place had a lovely feel to it, with a little courtyard, lovely bar and excellent breakfast room. The breakfast was amazing, with so much choice - fresh fruit juices made to order, eggs and lots more! The room was great - a massive king sized bed which was so comfortable and a really nice bathroom area with a really lovely raindrop shower and soft towels. The staff came to our room to offer us chocolates and a hot water bottle in case we got cold. The staff were very friendly. All in all, an excellent choice, located a couple of minutes walk from the centre of Cusco. I recommend it!

We stayed here in connection with our lodge-to-lodge trek
with Mountain Lodges of Peru. Everything was good -- we
stayed on the top floor (somehow labeled four) -- very
comfortable bed with strong wifi. The inner courtyard is
inviting. Service was excellent and staff were very helpful.
If you are here for a couple of days, the hotel can arrange
a guide/tour to see the Inca site Sacsaywaman just on the
outskirts of Cuzco -- highly recommended. Breakfast can
be large, but especially try the hot herbal drink that is just
to your left as you enter the breakfast room. We found the
location -- just off the main plaza by a few blocks -- to be
well-positioned.

My wife and I stayed at the El Mercado for much longer then expected as she became ill, while in Lima. The staff at El Mercado make your experience more than just a hotel stay. You become part of a very caring extended family, which is amazing when you are so far from home.

We have stayed at various large chain as well as boutique hotels around the world and found that staff at El Mercado to be among the best. Truly compassionate, genuine and professional individuals. No pretence or fake smiles.

The courtyard/garden is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy peace and quite tucked away from the bustling sounds of Cusco while still enjoying the outdoors and some fresh air. Our room was spotless and very comfortable, with all the amenities one would want including a very nice walk-in shower and great big bed that you just sink into. Daily breakfast was included, with a buffet that combined both American and European styles as well as freshly made juices of your choice. I found myself eating these fantastic cheese omelettes with fruit salad and several glasses of fresh juice everyday. We tended not to venture far from the hotel because of my wife, so we ate there often. Dinners were nice, although we usually ate vegetable or chicken soup (which was made to order), however there was also this fantastic pasta dish. The flavours were unique and delicious.

All around, terrific people and a great experience ! We would highly recommend this hotel.

My wife and I took the 7 day lodge to lodge trip and we stayed here two night prior to leaving and two nights after. This was a great decision! Everything was perfect. It is located in a perfect spot walking distance to everything you could possibly want to see. The staff was friendly from the first moment until the last. Excellent rooms that were immaculate and comfortable. We loved the breakfast every morning, and the blended fresh juices are a GREAT touch. The restaurant is cozy and welcoming, and the staff is exceptional. Carlos and Lizbeth (spelling???) were great every day when we rolled in ready for a glass of wine and a bite to eat. Great job. Cusco will always have a special place in our heart, and El Mercado had a lot to do with that. Thank you!!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 203 both times we checked in, and it was just fine. Remember, this is a city, so if you expect it to be quiet at night, remember to shut your window.

The staff at this small hotel really know hospitality, from the manager right down the line. Friendly, courteous, and helpful at all times during our stay. Owned by the same folks that operate "Mountain Lodges of Peru", four outstanding mountain lodges along the Salkantay trek. We just completed our stay at these properties, and would highly recommend El Mercado if you are staying in Cusco, and the Lodges if you are planning a trek in Peru.
