That was a looong looong day starting at 5.30am pick up from our hotel, bus drive to another city where train station was, about 30 mins wait before boarding, then train (very comfortable), change to another bus which took us up the hill, queue to get in (with photo ID), and finally we got to Machu Picchu. And it was WOW, way bigger and better than I ever imagined, very special and spiritual place. I wish we stayed there for longer, those 3 hrs was not enough. If you have a chance do yourself a favour and allocate another day to sleep there and come back next morning. We had a good nice caring guide, group of 10 of us, nice weather. The place was crowded. 3,000 people a day in the low season. That's why I wanted to come back in the morning again to be there by myself. Oh well, next time. The lunch was Ok, trip back - same way as in only in reverse order. We arrived back to the hotel after 9pm. WOW. That is something to remember and to come back if the opportunity presents itself in the future.

My wife and I have resently returned from a 8 day/night tour of central Peru. We flew into Lima on Delta. A no hassle flight. We booked our tour throughperuvaccations.com. Johnathan Arana was the tour agent we worked with. He was excellent. He answered all our questions. We were well informed and were comfortable the entire trip. Note: we are in our early 60's ans suffer somewhat from arthritis. Customs was no problem, the line a little long due to lot's of intl flts arrv at the same time. As it happened throughout the tour, a guide was waiting for us outside baggage claim. We stayed in Mia Flores in a worderful hotel. We are not rich and had asked for 3 or 4 star accomedations. All the hotels exceeded our expectations. All the tours were small groups, no more than 12 people. All the guides spoke english very well and were really excited to tell there countries story. A wonderful tour of Lima, dinner & a dance show. The next morning a flt to Cusco. Again a great tour guide, hotel and experience. A small group tour of the cathederals, museums & Inca ruins. Remember, only one bag each on the train. No checked bags. The next day the tour bus picked us up, leaving our extra bags at the hotel. Ollantaytambo ruins are amazing. Lunch at the old monestery was delicious, the landscape gorgeous. That evening we stayed in a resort. It is designed so each room has a small simi private balcony or patio. Humming birds flitting in the landscape, a cow occassionally mooing in the distance. The french doors open all night letting in the ccool mountain air. Every where we went we felt secure. A short ride to the train to Aguas Calinte. The views are spectacular. Somehow we missed our guide getting off the train. Our fault. We went to the hotel then wondered around the town. The hot spring were refreshing. Dinner at a local resturant. A good nights sleep. The room over looked out the rapids which lulled us to sleep. On to Machu Piccu by bus the next day. Jose our guide was wonderful. A private tour for just my wife & I was suppose to last 2 hrs. We toured for over 3 hrs. Jose assisted my wife thoughout the tour. The next day we were on our own. A hike to the museum & botanical gardens. The museum is very well done. As was the garden. Don't miss the botanical garden up the road to the right, just before the bridge. Gorgeous bromileads, orchids & bagonias. The next day back to Cusco by train. The next day we were on our own in Cusco. More museums & a wonderful local lunch. Our guide picked us up mid afternoon and we flew back to Lima.

If you are going to Machu Piccu, we recommend peruvacationtours.com. There was no hick ups or disappointments antwhere along the tour. These folks no how to do it right. Even for those of us on a tight budget. Enjoy!
