Nothing prepares you for the sight of this. After an exciting bus ride up the hairpin bends you enter through a tiny doorway in the stones and there it is!!! Our guide, David, led us around and explained to us what we were looking at and the mystical background of this site. Ticked the box.

Must see star attraction, this is the main reason to visit Cusco/ Aguas Caliente. The citadel is amazingly well preserved, there is a quiet mysticism here.

Well this is probably the one of the main reasons why one came to Peru.
I stayed in Ollanta and got the early train to Machu Picchu....then got the bus which drove like the clappers up the hill in rainy conditions. These guys are fairly skilled or maybe they think they have the flight of the Condor.
What a lovely site to behold. I would definitely get a guide or get the map from the ticket office so you can find the major sites.
At 9am the site wasn't that busy...it was good to have a slow accent. Then you reach the picture point.
I wasn't able to find the royal tomb.
After the guide spent 2hrs with us, we have the freedom to explore but I was a bit hungry....so make sure you take some snacks to keep you going. But there are no rubbish bins so all trash has to be taken from the site.
You could wonder the area for hours or just sit and enjoy the love views.

There are two storage points for big bags. $5 sol

I wish I was able to catch the sun as it rises.

Remember to stamp your passport at the check point if you have space.

Beautifull place to spend hours wondering around looking at the old inca site and the nature surrounding it.
