My boyfriend & I arrived early morning via bus from Arequipa to the hostal and were warmly greeted by one of the live in staff there - an excellent start at 6am - and offered a hot drink and time to relax before the usual need to check-in properly! After a warm shower and couple of hours sleep we had a nice simple continental breakfast and chill out in the small outdoor social area where the pet parrot decided to take a shine to me and my coffee!
Located a 10 minute stroll from the main plaza, the hostal is nicely away from all the hussle and noise of the centre and you definitely feel like you're in among the locals. A very safe neighbourhood and makes for a nice walk after dinner.
I could not recommend this hostal highly enough, and although it may not be a 5 star hotel (else you'd be there) the staff (and Paulie the parrot who I fell in love with) could not have made our stay more comfortable. For an extra couple of soles, a heater can be provided, of which we went for as the temperatures can drop to horrid levels, the use of the kitchen for hot drinks or snacks etc.
