“An excellent budget hostel”
Reviewed January 3, 2013 via mobile

We arrived at Kuntur Wasi at 7:30 AM, after being up all night and even though the check-in is at 11, the owner, Señora Maria, arranged for us to sleep at a different room until ours was ready. The rooms are small but comfy and just what you need after a day of adventures. There's free WiFi, breakfast is included and the staff is friendly and very helpful. If you want a budget hostel in the beautiful city of Cuzco, this is your place to stay.

Great hotel in Cuzco's San Blas district. Lovely rooms with view over Cuzco, clean, hot shower, laundry service, Wifi and 2 computers for free use. Maria, our host, awaited us with open arms at the airport and made our stay in Cuzco unforgettable. Every morning she greeted us over breakfast and gave us tips for our tours around the inca city. She even helped out and called a local travel doctor when I fell ill and she really took care of us like a mother.
From the hotel it's only a short walk to Cuzco's Plaza de Armas and to the many Quintas (little restaurants) of San Blas. We stayed for 4 nights (before and after the Salkantay Trail) and the price was more than reasonable for all the service we got. We would always go back to Kuntur Wasi!!!!!!

Room Tip: All double rooms offer an amazing view over Cuzco.

We stayed at Kuntur Wasi for 2 days at the end of October and Maria made us feel right at home from the moment we stepped in the door with a hot cup of coca tea - she's so sweet and always all smiles! Before we arrived I emailed Maria for assistance in getting tickets too Machu Picchu - as soon as we arrived she had us in touch with someone who booked us a 2 day trip. She also let us store out bags there while we were out for a few days in Machu Picchu.
As for the hostel it was clean, comfortable, showers were very hot!! WiFi is good in the main areas but not so much in the rooms. The breakfast was also good - a boiled egg, coca tea, bread and a cheese/meat plate. The location was about a 5 minute walk to the Plaza de Armas and it was off a quiet street with a great view of Cusco and the Viva al Peru carving in the mountain above Cusco. The only thing I will tell you is that Cusco does not have central heating so almost all hotels/hostels are chilly - Maria provided plenty of warm blankets and it was a wonderful sleep.

Great place to stay and a great price! Maria is the highlight!

Kuntur Wasi is a beautiful place, run by a fantastic lady, Maria. She and her family are super welcoming and helpful with whatever it is that you need. the place is very nice and clean, with free internet and a great continental breakfast ... hard boiled egg, ham, bread, tea, coffee. Maria let me leave my backup there while I was trekking to Machu Picchu and was able to return really late at night. The place is located about a 5 minute walk from the Plaza De Armas, and it is quiet and safe. Will definitley be staying there again on my next trip to Cusco! thank you Maria for a wonderfull stay at Kuntur Wasi.

Doña Maria makes this place special. She kindly organized our pick up in the airport and received us with coca tea and the best advices to survive Cusco. The room were ok, we would love to have a heater but in reality the beds have like four layers so you sleep really warm and nice. Great and powerful hot water, is amazing. I stayed in two different rooms, before and after the Inca Trail. Doña Maria kindly looked after our huge bags while we were on it. The best room for a couple is the 201. Doña Maria also made breakfast before the regular time so we could have something nice before the trip. She recommended us a non-touristic fantastic restaurant called Señor Carbón and we really appreciated everything she did for us. If I ever come back to Cusco, I won't hesitate in staying there once again.

Room Tip: 201 is warmer, have a better bed and pillows...

This hotel had just about the nicest and most helpful service of any I've ever been in (50+ countries). They tended to my wife's altitude sickness with coca tea and sympathy, served breakfast extra-early to accommodate our schedules, dispensed very helpful advice (to make sure one had Machu Picchu tickets in advance!), and kindly and efficiently arranged arrival and departure and logistics -- they have a super-nice, patient, and well-informed cab driver they work with, I highly recommend him! The hotel itself has is very clean, quiet and pleasant throughout, and the location is convenient to various sites and scenic parts of town. Run stay there!

This hostel in the San Blas area of Cuzco was quiet, and the owner was very sweet. The private matrimonial suite had a lovely view and the bed was very comfortable. Didn't wake early enough for the breakfast, and never really used the shower (our one try resulted in about 3 minutes of warm water followed by ice cold- but we never addressed this with the hostel and hot water may have just needed to be turned on). The owner arranged for our laundry to be cleaned and I was amazed at the integrity of both her/the staff, and the laundry service, when my change purse (which I had "hidden" in a dirty sock- hidden even from myself apparently) was returned with the clean laundry (and with all of my money still inside). Only complaint is that at night it gets freezing cold in the room.
