“Clean, friendly, and a great location!”
Reviewed June 25, 2009

Pros: Rumi Punku has an excellent location, its easy to walk to the main attractions and great restaurants. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and fresh. The breakfast each morning was great. There is internet in the lobby to check the weather and keep in touch with family/friends at home. The only con: Breakfast did not seem to be replenished once it was put out at 5:30 AM. So, once an item was gone, it was gone for the day! One morning we arrived to breakfast late, and your only option is coffee/tea. So, make sure you are an early bird during your stay at the Rumi Punku!

I just returned from a 2 night stay at Rumi Punku. The hotel is located just a 10 minute walk from the Plaza. My family of 5 stayed in 1 room with 3 single and 1 double beds. The beds were very comfortable and "warm". The shower was hot with great water presurre, this is extremely important to me. They have free internet service which was great...the staff was kind and efficient.

Charming hotel, Front desk staff & doorman always very helpful. Rooms clean and neat, but only dim light bulbs to read by. Looked forward to the hot tub in a nice little room, but when we went to use it found it closed for the construction going on next to it. Breakfast was nice the first day, the second day when we had an early flight the server did not offer anyone in the dining area eggs like we had the day before...really the breakfast room service was non-existant that early morning.

I took my wife and two boys (12 and 10) to Peru and our original plan was to stay at Rumi Punku for two nights between trips to the Amazon and Machu Picchu. We did and really enjoyed the place. It is centrally located to the plaza and is quiet at night. They stored our extra luggage between stays.

When we arrived, they picked us up at the airport and brought us to the hotel. It is located on a narrow cobblestone street above the plaza. The entry is an original Inca structure. They have coca and other teas available all day, and free internet. One thing I liked is that they would not accept payment for rooms until checkout, unlike many places I stayed in Peru.

When you walk into the hotel, the lobby is off to the left. Besides internet, the lobby has a flat screen TV, games (chess, etc) and a book exchange. They serve breakfast here every morning for free and it is really good - bacon, breads, yogurt, fruits, fruit juices, and eggs cooked any way you want them. My older son and I have celiac disease, and we had no problem eating a full breakfast.

We had two separate rooms on the two planned nights and both were great, very clean, up to date, with tile floors, firm beds, and a phone and TV in each room. They have bottled water for 2 soles each.

I want to emphasize the quality of the staff. We worked primarily with Juan and Sergio. They provided recommendations on restaurants (use this, because there are tons of restaurants in Cusco, not all of them good), helped us with tickets to a local soccer game, advice on Perurail and train tickets, where to get money, etc. They were invaluable.

Now, when I planned the trip to Peru, I wanted to stay at a few different places. After Machu Picchu, I booked a room in a different hotel. That didn't work for us, so I called Rumi Punku and talked to Juan, and he got us a room immediately. We stayed there for two additional nights. Then, when we planned to fly out of Cusco, we had a long day in Lima. I asked Sergio about a guide and he recommended his brother Roger, who could take us around for the day for $110. This was similar to what I paid three years ago in Costa Rica for a driver, so I accepted.

Sergio told me up front that his brother did not speak English (we don't speak very much Spanish). We flew to Lima and Roger picked us up in a van, accompanied by his wife and a driver. They took us to the San Francisco Mueseum (complete with catacombs and skeletons), Mueseum of the Spanish Inquisition (prison cells, and torture chamber mockups), the changing of the guard at the Presidential Palace, some shopping in Mira Flores, and to the beach cliffs where a crazy local dived into the ocean. Unfortunately, it was a Monday so one of the ruins they wanted to take us to was closed, as well as some of the beach restaurants. Whenever we had problems communicating, Roger called his brother Sergio and we worked it out. I recommend anyone who has a long layover in Lima to talk to Sergio and get Roger to escort you around. It was great.

Rumi Punku is a special place to stay. I highly recommend it for its cleaniliness, location, food, and especially the staff. It is more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel, a great value, and a place that you can take your kids to and feel safe.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and had a very positive experience as far as the hotel location, cleanliness, hotel staff support, hotel facilities are concerned. The lobby has coca tea available anytime. Internet/computer is available for free. During our stay, Antonio was at the reception and he was always supportive and glad to help. You feel secure walking back home at night knowing that there there's always a guard at the hotel gate. All the hotel personnel were courteous and helpful. No wonder the hotel is expanding. The only negative was the construction going on at the hotel which is supposed to be finished by end of June. We happened to come back in the middle of the day to rest but was not able to because of the construction noise.

The hotel is designed in a Spanish style with rooms looking out onto an attractive courtyard. Rooms are clean, beds comfortable and hot water and heat plentiful. Security is more than adequate. Guest rooms are secure and there is a security person at the entrance 24/7. The buffet breakfast is great with everything from bacon and eggs to fruits, breads, cereals and juices. The staff sets the hotel apart. They are friendly, flexible and have great attention to detail. They ask you what you want, you tell them and they deliver. I will return to Cusco next year and will make a point of staying at this hotel.

The Rumi Punku had everything we were looking for during our stay in Cusco. Very clean, excellent front desk staff (fluent English), and walking distance to Plaza de Armas. They were happy to keep our extra luggage while we were gone hiking for 4 days, and it was wonderful to come back to their hot showers!
Front desk staff (Sergio) arranged an excellent private day tour of the Sacred Valley for our group of 8, and his recommendations for restaurants were great. He also arranged reasonably priced transportation to the airport.
Impeccable service and delicious breakfast!
