Description: Uchu's kitchen is inspired by classic Peruvian recipes touched with contemporary sophistication. We also play with new ingredients taking new flavors and creating unequable experiences for the palate. Carved wooden bases, volcanic stones prepared at high temperatures, an ample selection of surf and turf ítems from which to choose, native aji creams and aromatic herbs allow us to provide a unique dining experience for all. Located in a colonial home in the center of Cusco, exposed adobe walls, clay, aged wood, avant garde textiles, candles and crystals create an eclectic ambience in which to enjoy your experience.

“A gem of a restaurant!”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

We made our last meal in Cusco to be at Uchu because we knew this place was going to be a treat of a restaurant. Boy, we weren't disappointed at all! Fine dining at its best, Everything we had at Uchu was so delicious and beautifully presented, including the drinks. We had their signature grilled meat combo with yummy sauces to dip in and an appetizer. Perfect! Decor was warm and interesting as well. Can be a nice place for a date.We recommend everyone to splurge a little and check this place out. Even the owner/ host was wonderful and accommodating as well. We can't recommend this place enough!

“Fantastic authentic Peruvian steakhouse.”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

Based on a recommendation from a good friend currently living in Cusco, we went to Uchu for dinner. Like many restaurants here in Peru, the exteriors of the buildings can be deceiving. The interior decor is very nicely done. We ordered one of their steak combinations, which included beef tenderloin, lamb & alpaca. It was served on a hot volcanic stone and included a salad and a very delicious mashed potatoes w/ peanuts and chile. A fantastic dish. We enjoyed the chocolate madness dessert as well. We highly recommend dining at Uchu if you are visiting Cusco.

“Excellent for grilled meat!”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

It took us a couple of tries to find this restaurant, which is somewhat hidden from the main paths. But I'm glad we did! As noted by others, this is an excellent option to try Peruvian meats in their grilled forms. Even the bread was grilled. Highly recommended.

“Show-off but fun”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

I ate there last night. Restaurant only opens at 6pm, as in: the staff will have you sit outside until 6:15pm... And the place gets packed (it's small) so you might want to make a reservation. All right:

- Typical Peruvian (you can get Guinea Pig here)
- Show off presentation (big wooden board, sizzling hot stone, 4 sauces, choice of great potatoes)
- Great ambiance: warm, cosy, well-underlit

- Service is a little on the "I don't care" side of things, at least our waiter was
- Starters are not amazing: maybe give this a skip
- Not a place for dessert either

Overall: a brilliant, memorable, cosy experience. Flavors a little on the shy, predictable side, but good fun.

“Great food - great drinks - lots of meat!”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

Uchu was a bit hard to find - it's located on one of the side streets off the main square. Once you get in, you will find a nicely decorated restaurant with a romantic atmosphere. It is pricey (for Cusco), but you get what you pay for.

We started off our meal with drinks and the causa, a potato and chicken dish that is fairly common in Peru - it was wonderful. The pisco sours were the best I had in Peru and I had 2 of them (plus a Peru Libre - by the end of the night, I was feeling pretty happy!).

My boyfriend and I both got mixed grill platters; between the two of us, we had chicken, alpaca, shrimp, and beef. I had the regular potato mash, he had the peanut spice mash (get that - it's delicious). The meat platters came with 4 types of dipping sauces: a chimichurri, a teriyaki, melted butter, and one that I can't remember (sorry). The meat was sizzling on the hot stone platter and arranged artfully. It was all tender and delicious. I'd say it was the second best meal we had in Cusco (see my other reviews to find out what was first! :).

If you really want to treat yourself, go to Uchu - you will enjoy it. And I don't know if this is a seasonal/short-time thing or not, but we got a discount here because we were staying at the Hotel Torre Dorada. If you're staying there, you may want to ask.

And have a pisco sour - you'll like it!
