This may have been the best hotel we stayed in during our stay in Peru. The staff at Loreto are very friendly and attentive. The first breakfast was very poor just fresh orange juice, egg fried or scrambled. fresh bread butter and jam. When we complained to the girls, they must have passed on our complaint as the next morning we were offered yoghurt, ham and cheese and the rest. We stayed for two nights then went to Machu Picchu for the night and on our return found that they had kept our same rooms which we liked very much. We then went off for another 2 nights to visit Lake Titicaca and they were happy to look after our suitcases once again. On our arrival from both trips they had organized for a taxi driver to pick us up at a good rate. I would definitely recommend this hotel to all as although they dont have a lift, they offer rooms on the ground floor. The rooms are not of the same standard as ours was large and airy and even had a safe and a wardrobe yet our friends were not so lucky as they had a pokey room without a window and no wardrobe nor a safe. Maybe its a matter of luck !!!

Loreto hotel is just a few steps from the Plaza de Armas, and that means political parties are using the square until late for their manifestations with drums.... But thats just until October 3rd.
Otherwise the hotel is comfortable, good breakfast served in a small cold room (perfect wake up) , some of the rooms has Inka walls (mine had) and that gives the rooms an extra charm. the staff are very serviceminded and take good care of you during your first day feeling dizzy due to the altitude.

Very comfortable place, the beds are lush, firm and clean. The best staff ever, super friendly and helpful. Truly a great deal. Love the old colonial paintings and the overall building. Breakfast is basic, but great !

You can't play with the soroche, the altitude sickness, it knocks you off.

The staff really worried about us. They served coca tea and a medicine (soroche pills) and they told us to relax and make a light meal in the first day. They were right.

It's in front of the one of the most beautiful place in Peru, Plaza de Armas.

Ps.: There is a pub in the same entrance, but the owner, an english man was so rude. Ignore that place, don't waste your time in an english pub if you're in Peru. Go to the locals places.

Highlight: One wall of our room was a 14th century Inca wall. Our hostess, Olga, was very helpful and accommodating in arranging all our local travel arrangements (Macchu Pichu, Ollantaytambo) so we traveled by bus, train, & taxi, but got everywhere easily. The renovations should make it an excellent place!

Like other travelers have noted, this hostel is right off the main Plaza in Cuzco. I found the staff to be very accommodating and the hostel clean and comfortable. There were clean sheets, towels, TV in the room with some English-language stations, 24 hour hot water and an in-room heater. The wifi was spotty, but I was just happy to have free wifi in Cuzco!

A few notes:
I stayed here twice. On my first stay, I slept in one of the rooms with an "Inca Wall". The hostel itself is built within a structure that incorporated some of the 500 year-old Inca ruins that make up Cuzco. If only for a novelty, it was pretty cool to have a room with one of these magnificent Inca relics.

On my second stay, the hostel was quiet different, as the owner has been doing some significant remodeling - new bathrooms, new paint, new modern locks, new carpet. During my first visit, I found the entire building to bit a bit damp and drafty (it was the rainy season), but the remodeled room was very warm and comfortable. The new bathroom was very western with a full tub, clean tile and the works.

Bear in mind, Hostel Loreto is a HOSTEL, not a hotel. Although these digs were a bit more than other hostels in town, I didn't feel ripped off in the least and found it to be a very fair value overall. If I had one negative comment to make at all, it would be the noise in the place. The hostel's rooms are situated around two small courtyards - every door slam, conversation and birds' coo echoes off the cobblestones and walls making for a very noisy morning. On the flip side, there wasn't much of a night crowd staying, so the noise wasn't a problem for me.

Finally, the location of Hostel Loreto is great if you want to stay off or near Plaza de Armas. Although this seemed like a good idea when planning my trip, I think I might stay in another area of town if I should return to Cuzco. The Plaza is LOADED with locals soliciting tourists. You honesty can't sit at a park bench for 5 minutes without someone trying to sell you tourism services, souvenirs or a shoe shine. San Blas or Ave de Sol might be worth pricing out, especially since the city is relatively small and each of these areas is just a short walk from each other.
