Spacious, well-light, colorful and very impressive Cathedral. A must do in Cusco. Plan 60-minutes to see!

The cathedral is amazingly beautiful. The history behind the art word and sculptures are quite interesting as well. I wish we would have had more time to explore, but we were with a group and didn't have the time. While I'm glad we did use the group because we were able to get a plethora of information from the tour guide, I think we only saw about 50% of the cathedral. I found it very interesting the subversive way the Quechuans were able to blend their symbols into Catholic art and still practice in secret.

The cathedral is a beautiful structure from the outside, but there is so much more to see inside. Because the Quechuan people did not have a written language, the Spanish conquerors taught them what their new religion would be through art. There are many important paintings in this cathedral, including one of The Last Supper that has indigenous foods (including cuy) as part of the meal.

Self-guided audio tours are available if you desire. Or you can do a little reading ahead of time and figure out what to see.

The entry fee is not part of the Boleto Turistico.

Very ornate and built by the invading Spanish who seem to have converted the indigenous population to be Catholics. Hoards of fresh flowers adorn a multitude of alters to the Virgin Mary. Lots of opulence and extravagance within the church making the interior in danger of over gilding the lily. Worth a visit and right at the heart of Cusco in a beautiful square.
