While in Cusco, we stayed in more than one hotel and liked the Picoaga the best. It is a great location. Ask to stay in the old part of the hotel if possible. There were 4 of us staying together and we got 1 room that was a suite-- it worked out to be pretty affordable and it was very nice. The bathroom was super nice and it was a great place to hang out while we were getting used to the altitude sickness. My only complaint was that we were under the impression that the person who picked us up from the airport was an employee of the hotel and she was actually working for a local tourist agency trying to sell us day trips. It is all part of what I would call the "Cusco hard sell". The actual hotel employees were wonderful and went out of their way to help us.

Great looking hotel from the courtyard, but big problems lurk beyond. We were kept awake until 2am with lound music from a restaurant/bar show next door - we asked to be moved, but were not accomodated.

Worse still, we had 4 DVDs "disappear" from our room during the stay, and a sentimentally valuable baby blanket that we accidentally left behind was "never found" by cleaning staff. Don't count on a safe in the room - there wasn't one available either.

There are lots of other choices in Cuzco - I would definitely give this one a pass.

My wife and I stayed here (room 209) 5/3-8/3 2010 as a base for visit to the Inca sites, it was at the time that the railway to Machu Picchu was closed but there as still lots of amazing things to see and do. The hotel is 50mts from the main square, lots of nice, reasonably priced restaurants handy and shopping. It was clean, quiet and very helpful staff. The Hotel was part of a package and Advendture World (Aust) have done their homework on this one, a beauty.
Nothing to do with the hotel but we badly underestimated the affects of the altitude, didn't kill us but slowed us right down. Take it slow, regardless of your age and fitness level.

If you want to change your money, don't do it at hotel pico agua, their exchange rate was 1.40 while a nearby bank was giving 2.76 (to change u.s.$ to soles).

The bed we slept in was infested with bed bugs. Our legs were covered in what have to be described as the most itchy bites ever!

Dear Guest:
We are very surprised with your comments about our Hotel.
Our exchange rate is published at our front desk and it is very close to the one offered by local banks.
On the other hand and as a 4 star hotel we fumigate our rooms every 4-6 months, as demanded by local authorities.
We do not have complaints about bed bugs, because we do not have any.
Regards,
C Woll

As suggested we stayed in a colonial room overlooking an interior courtyard. This was also considered a 'quiet' room. And it was quite. 16' ceilings, really big bed. Not a hige room but it perfect for my wife and I and had the romantic feel that she was looking for. Bathtub/shower, built-in hair dryer, fridge, tv. Beautiful stenciling over the bed. The staff wasn't exuberant, but they were very professional and efficient. We had some needs in the middle of the night and the staff helped us immediately and without question. The building and interior courtyard are beautiful. Breakfast was great, lots to choose from and the dining room looks out over part of the city and the Plaza de Armas. Location is perfect. One block from the Plaza de Armas so it's quiet but easy to get to all the sites and museums.

We stayed at the suites on the colonial side 1night before MP and 1night after and they were great, spacious, and with whirpool tub. The grounds are beautiful and breakfast was great as well. Walking distance to the Plaza and everywhere

The Picoago is a snooze.

It is a tourist trap for large groups, which is evident by the spacious restaurant with no food and the relatively small, dated rooms. They have the obligatory gift shop accompanied by an elderly local weaving in the courtyard. They also have two computers in the "business center" - note, the internet service will cost you $15 per day. Also, don't forget that you will pay a 10% tax if you pay via credit card. Cash or soles is king.

We hit the breakfast buffet at 7:30 and there was not an item or waiter in sight.

Now, the location is good (just a few blocks off the center square), hot showers, clean rooms and the hotel is fairly honest in the sense that it doesn't advertise much more than it is. The rates are somewhat reasonable as well. Do not book through a tour operator. You can find the same rooms online or in person for 30-50% less.

Still, I suspect you can do MUCH better by spending either a few dollars more or hitting an inexpensive but charming (or at the very least adventurous) hostel.

3. Our breakfast buffet is served daily from 4:30 am to 10 am with a large variety of juices, cold cuts, eggs, breads, cereales, etc. Taking care that every guest is properly served.

The hotel Costa del Sol Ramada is located in a colonial-era mansion that is considered part of the cultural heritage of the city of Cusco. The building dates back to the 17th century, when the Marquis de Picoaga arrived in the city and built himself a new home, employing stonework and murals. The hotel is divided between a colonial wing and a contemporary wing, combining stone archways, a beautiful patio, a fountain and original murals dating from the architecture of the 17th century with all the comforts of a modern, contemporary hotel. The rooms have been designed for the comfort of the guests and are spacious, peaceful and fully equipped. They have Wi-Fi internet connections, cable television, direct dial telephones, safe deposit boxes and a mini-bar. The hotel conserves all the beauty of an old colonial mansion and provides the welcoming service that will make you feel special during every day of your stay with us. ... more   less
