“Beautiful Hotel with Amazing Service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2014

We recently stayed at Hotel Monasterio after our trek up the Inka Trail and into Machu Pichu. Our experience was outstanding. The concierge provided remarkable service from handling our bags, to directions and even walking us in the rain with umbrellas to our car. Our waiter at breakfast was wonderful and we enjoyed seeing him each and every morning to start our day. Rooms were beautiful and immaculate, the beds were extremely comfortable and the grounds were beautiful. Overall, amazing stay and highly recommend.

This old monastery has very cozy rooms, it took me until the second day to realize that the shutters on the windows opened to let in light! It is located on a small square with a few shops and just a couple of blocks from the main square in Cusco and there was a lot you can see within easy walking distance. The food in the restaurants was delicious and at dinner one night we had a wonderful opera singer performing while we ate. Her voice was beautiful but it was a little hard to carry on a conversation with the other people at our table. At lunch one day I wasn't feeling very well and the restaurant gladly fixed me a plain chicken breast which wasn't an offering on their menu.

The positive things about this hotel: the unique experience of staying in a very well restored old monastery, the gentle music of a religious feel piped through the beautifully cared for gardens, the delicious breakfast, comfortable rooms without any street noise....however, the negatives are that the walls are very thin and along the corridors there are strips of shiny brass metal plates holding the carpet runners together and at all hours they make a horrible noise as people push bags and trolleys over them. Cleaners start their day very early and the trolleys they push along woke us every morning, probably every time! Very disappointing, didn't seem any point in changing rooms as the carpet plates seem to be in every corridor. Suggest they replace metal plates with rubber if possible! They offer choices about having linen changed, BUT they still changed our sheets even though we left the card on the pillow to signify not to change our sheets. In fact we returned to our room at 3pm ready for a rest and the bed was stripped bare and no cleaner in sight. There are no tea of coffee making facilities in the room. Location is central to the old part of Cusco, but a bit of a climb down to the main square ( if you have problems walking you will need to get a taxi to get around or at least down to the flat area to explore)

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the staff service elevator

We loved this hotel. The inner garden terraces are beautiful and the whole place is so tranquil and yet you are so near the centre of town. The food was excellent and the front of house very considerate. Unfortunately my husband was taken ill with double pneumonia and they could not have been more caring and a doctor was with us within 15 minutes (better than the UK).

The hotel is beautiful and unique. However the competition is surpassing this hotel with better amenities and a lower price. I would not return because having stayed at the JW Marriott for half the price I was more than Satisfied there instead.

I stayed 5 days for a Corporate Event.
I really enjoyed this amazing hotel : it is sophisticated, charming and so peaceful almost mystical.
All the staff is highly warm , service is excellent.
The collection of art all around the property is incredible.
A special mention also to the bathroom which was a great surprise.
I wish I could come back one day ......

Magnificent setting. Equal to the best Hotel that we have stayed in.Food outstanding. Ambience unbeatable. Service excellence.
To stay in an Ancient Monastry with antique furniture and paintings was an experience we will never forget.
