We recently did the Salkantay trek with Quechuas Expeditions, and absolutely loved every minute. It was physically a tough trek, but the scenery and people more than made up for the hard work. We were in a small group of similar-aged, like-minded people, and had great fun. We couldn´t have asked for a better guide - Hugo was incredibly interesting and gave us so much fascinating information about the location, people, flora and fauna. But also, he was brilliant fun and we all got on really well. Our cook, Aurelio, was also great - we had delicious food every day.
The general organisation of the trip was perfect, and at all times we felt like everything was taken care of.
An all-round excellent experience, 100% recommended!!!

Our 4D/3N Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu was the highlight of our Peruvian vacation. In fact, we joked that we would have been satisfied even if we hadn't seen Machu Picchu on the 4th day - the breathtaking scenery, the knowledge and insight from our fantastic guide, Hugo, the delicious food, and the camaraderie of our small group made for a memorable adventure. The Quechuas Expeditions trek exceeded all expectations. The team was very responsive to questions when we booked online from the US a few weeks before our trip. We were a little concerned with sending money via Western Union for the deposit, but the whole process was incredibly smooth.

The walking itself isn't too difficult, but the altitude, especially on the second day when you hit 4600 meters, makes for slow going. We always felt we could go at our own pace, and the ever-changing landscape is so spectacular you'll want to stop frequently for photo breaks anyway!

I highly recommend booking through Quechuas Expeditions, and give a HUGE thanks to our team for going above and beyond to ensure that our trip was a success: our guide, Hugo, our master chef, Aurelio, and our porter, Rolando.

After reading tons of reviews and deciding to go with Quechuas Expeditions, I must say we made the right choice. We did the classic 4D/3N inca trek, happened to be just the 2 of us for that particular start day. As they promised, they will still do the trek even if 2 people sign up for a particular day. It worked out great for us since we are in our sixties and probably couldn't keep up with a younger crowd. We weren't rushed to get to base camp and had time to enjoy our hike, thanks to our great guide Juan. Armando our terrific cook surprised us each day with his fantastic meals; and our porters, Damian, Martine, Demetrio and Rafael were very attentive to our needs. I was surprised to hear of other companies' tents leaking or zippers didn't work, we had no problem with ours at all. My sleeping bag was clean and warm, slept like a log. It's important that one prepares well physically for this trek, it is grueling. I had more problem going uphill, but with a couple of minutes of rest I could continue. Whereas most people seem to have problem going downhill, and there's a lot of that on day 2&3 afternoons, it was a breeze for me. Having coca leaves and coca candies readily available is helpful indeed. We also planned our trip so that we were in Cusco 5 days ahead of our trek time to get acclimatized to the altitude. Wayra of Quechuas Expeditions helped us plan our day trips and saw to it that everything went smoothly. We did both private tours and joined up with large group tours, all of which went well. We chose to go spend a day at high altitude, being Lake Titicaca, which involved sleeping on an overnight bus to Puno. Wayra planned it so that we were put on their best overnight buses. We were met and picked up by a tour guide in Puno at 5am, connected with a group tour for the day on Uros island and Taquile Island, and returned on another overnight bus ride back to Cusco. We were picked up by Wayra at the bus terminal at 5am who took us back to our hotel, not a clich in the entire planning. The other tours we did were: Cusco City tour, Sacred Valley tour (a very fulfilling long day), and a visit to the salt mines at Maras. I would recommend this company to any of my friends, a very good local company who cares for the well being of their workers.

We had a perfect 5D/4N Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu, organized by Quechuas Expeditions and led by our excellent guide Hugo.

Based on good reviews on Tripadvisor we booked our trek online, some two weeks before arrival in Cusco. Quechuas was very responsive and generally answered every question within a day, which was very reassuring and helpful. Transferring the deposit was cumbersome for us. Quechuas recommended using Western Union but this didn't work out for us. We ended up making a same-day transfer through our bank at astronomical fee (~25% of total deposit).

Upon arrival in Cusco we were thoroughly briefed about our trip and introduced to the guide and the group. The trek itself was amazing including beautiful views on Salkantay and Machu Picchu. We found the tour extremely well organized: no waiting; all tickets purchased by Quechuas were accurate; no broken promises.

We count ourself lucky to have had Hugo as our guide as he cheerfully introduced us to the wonders of the Machu Picchu area. He is very knowledgeable of local fauna, and a proud and passionate narrator of the Inca herritance. Wilber, our cook, did a great job preparing a great variety of foods!

Highly recommended!

The private tour that allows you to customize and see what your group wants to see at your own speed was worth every extra penny. We were able to visit Salinas which was one of the highlights of our entire visit to Peru. Our guide Percy was also excellent.
