“great little hotel”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

This little property is tucked away up the hill from the old town square. Walking up to it 2 blocks can get your breath the first few times, but you are here to get climatised for your walking at Machu Picchu later so a little walking better not hurt. They have most of your needs that the big name hotels have, wifi cable tv and such(remember we are not in the USA.).If you need a 3 am wake up call, they're there. Super thick walls (about two feet thick so your neighbors arent an issue. Very clean with quality furnishings, (but no King size beds.) I definately recommend this hotel The staff will make sure you have your needs taken care of.

My family stayed there for 3 nights and everything was perfect. The staff went above and beyond the call of duty to make their stay a pleasant one. The attention to detail was on the par with the Four Season's. My applause to Edwin who helped make the stay unforgettable.

RumiWasi was an incredible hotel. I had planned a trip for 11 people and we had most of the hotel to ourselves. When planning for others, there is always the concern as to whether the place will meet expectations. It certainly did. The Hotel is beautiful. We were able to all meet in the garden area for a picnic dinner. The rooms were clean and spacious. To our surprise, when we climbed into bed, we have hot water bottles under the covers at the foot of the bed. This was an excellent touch and was perfect for May. My husband and I never needed to turn on any heat. The staff was extremely helpful. When we needed wine glasses for 11, they found them next door. They were there regardless of our need and were never less than incredibly pleasant. The owner gave us lots of travel tips and was instrumental in assuring we had a true Peruvian experience. I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: The inner rooms are more quiet.

My husband and I stayed at this well-kept hotel right off the main plaza for a total of three nights and I wish we could have stayed longer. We booked the Terrace Suite for our first two nights, then, we left to complete a trek to Machu Picchu. After the trek we returned to stay one night in a Classic Double suite before leaving Cusco.
We really loved the Terrance Suite. It was cozy and the terrace had gorgeous panoramic of the city. Our first night, we bought a bottle of wine, sat by the outdoor heater (it was chilly while we were there) and gazed at the city lights under the stars. In the morning, the staff offered to deliver our breakfast to our room and we ate out on the terrace. The hot water bottles that were placed in the bed were perfect in the evening. We turned the heater on in the room as well and had no problems staying warm at night. On the Saturday night that we were there I do remember hearing a little noise on the street and some dogs barking a bit, but nothing that kept me from sleeping soundly.
The hotel staff was very friendly and extremely accommodating. They served us breakfast at the crack of dawn before we left to start our trek to Machu Picchu. While we were gone on the trek, the hotel allowed us to store our suitcases, which was great. Elena was super sweet and there were a couple of men (whose names I can’t recall) that were wonderful as well.
If we go back to Cusco, we’ll definitely stay at the Rumi Wasi again. We highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Terrace Suite was the best and we enjoyed the Classic Double room as well.

I found this hotel itself to be good to very good in itself. In particular, the staff were very obliging even if they were sometimes very busy (under-staffed).

However, after completing my reservation on Expedia (which included full payment via credit card) I learned from the "Important Hotel Information" that if cancellations or changes are made within the 7 days before arrival then a hotel surcharge equal to 100% of the total paid booking costs will be charged. I believe that this is an unusually severe penalty, especially if one has booked and paid for several nights.

Thus, before making a reservation one must be very sure that one will not need to cancel or change the reservation.

candles lit, smelled like a spa. wooden door leading onto a balcony overlooking the opposite street. high ceilings. it was gorgeous. but as soon as i started unpacking, i realised my stuff occupies most of the floor and the open cupboards. wooden doors were so drafty and the portable heater took most of the night to heat the room and left me shivering.
there was 1 staff who cooked and serve your breakfast. same staff was cleaning the rooms and seeing to guests' needs. different staff at night and early mornings, but 1 person at a time can hardly have enough time to oversee everything. I ended up having to wait for printouts and felt guilty bothering them if i need anything as they looked overwhelmed.
note that the hotel does not have a sign, look for the blue doors and the door number and ring the bell (you might need to wait if that 1 staff is busy). The street is on a steep incline from the main plaza, I was breathless everytime i walked back to the hotel.
dogs were barking in the early mornings at the back street. looks like dodgy people congregate there. inconsiderate neighbours were also talking all night in the hallway and the doors offer no insulation.
upside is you can have breakfast anytime, we had our last breakfast at 3:15am as we need to leave at 4 for the airport. beautiful views from the balcony, but i wished the patio heaters were working.

Room Tip: maybe choose the upper rooms for a better view or one of their bigger suites.

This is a beautiful property that the owner obviously put a lot of time and effort (and money) into. What you see in pictures is actually what it looks like and you won't find any dirt, chipping paint, mold etc anywhere in this hotel. It is only 7 rooms and very cute, with a great balcony for breakfast and a lot of picture opportunities. The staff are also amazing, and I want to single out Paul who was just wonderful! ANything you need, they will always be easy to find and will try to accomodate. I do want to mention a couple of things though. The number one being that it's cold in Cusco (at least when we were there in May) and there is no central heat. This is all very understandable and the hotel does everything to negate that- space heaters and even hot water bottles for your feet at night (a lot sweeter in real life than it might sound) but we were still always cold which wore us out. Bathrobes and slippers might be very helpful especially when trying to get out of the shower. Also, you can hear everything and sleeping was a bit of an issue at times. There were two consecutive nights of a man yelling, then a dog barking.. then whistling? All of this on top of altitude sickness made for some really bad sleep. BUT I'm only writing this to make sure people are aware, a lot of these things are just what come with the territory of a small hotel and you have to go with it. Other than that, I can't imagine what could have been changed. Really lovely little boutique, do stay here for a few nights and live like they used to in Cusco.

Room Tip: The room with a private balcony is right at the enterance- while the private space is nice, consider...
