My boyfriend and I booked with Alpaca for our Inca Trail hike due to the 100% satisfaction rating on TripAdvisor and COULD NOT be more pleased with our experience.

First and foremost, the company is a Peruvian company, so if you book through them you are actually supporting the local people versus supporting a U.K-owned or some other internationally-owned company. The porters highly value their jobs - which are NOT easy! - and use the money they make to pay for their children's education. This company is a perfect example of social entrepreneurship, and I absolutely value their commitment to making positive change in their local communities.

If that doesn't hook you to book with them, let me break down the AWESOMENESS of the guides and absolutely EXEMPLARY amenities and culinary presentations.

First of all, the guides are super knowledgeable about anything and everything Inca trail and beyond. They not only explain every historical and cultural aspect of the trail and prior civilizations, but they do it in a way that absolutely captivates the audience. Beyond their excellent practical services, the guides are some of the most personable, funny, and engaging individuals I've ever met. They will immediately make you feel like "part of the family."

You can't review Alpaca without mentioning THE FOOD! Straight up - some of the best food we had while in Peru. These guys will absolutely blow your mind with what they can do with only a small portable stove in high altitude. It was one of our group member's birthday and they made a full-on birthday cake! And it was amazing! Without an oven, mind you. We also enjoyed cinnamon quinoa porridge for breakfast, turkey lunch wraps, apple pie, and so much more.

Although the food, the cultural exploration, and accoutrements of the tour are exquisite, the most incredible part of the trip is the experience you have bonding as a group while on the trail. And that bond is between all constituents - trekkers, guides, porters, and chefs. I met some incredible people with similar interests and values who really were just looking for a life-changing experience. And that is exactly what we all received! You will not regret booking with Alpaca. There's a reason they retain their 100% rating on there.

The Alpaca Expeditions 4D/3N Lares Trek was the highlight of our month in Peru. I would highly recommend the Lares Trek with Alpaca Expeditions to anyone considering this adventure! Our guide, Jose, was very knowledgeable, patient, and fun. The food was nothing short of amazing. The camping accommodations were great. The office staff were very helpful (via email and in person) during the planning and preparation process. You won't regret your decision to go with AE!

I'll just add to the list of great reviews of Alpaca Expeditions- From the moment we set foot in the Alpaca offices, we felt a part of the Alpaca family. The personalized service we received- from pickups at our hilltop hotel, to help with the bank, to all the complicated logistics of our City Tour, Lares trek and trip to Machu Picchu, and even a ride to the airport- was top notch.

We had an informative and interesting City Tour with Gedo, seeing sights both in and around Cusco. We returned to the Alpaca offices for a detailed briefing about our trek. The next day, we left on our Trek with Simon as our guide and Marcos as our chef, along with three helpers/ horsemen/porters. For the next 3 days- we combined challenging walking/ hiking (at 12,000- 15,000 ft elevation- the thin air makes even a gradual grade feel like a mountain), gourmet 3 course meals with lots of veggies, variety and flavor, and camping (set up for us by the wonderful and versatile staff). It was cold at night- wished I had brought better clothes. Simon, with his near perfect English and charming demeanor- was informative about nature, history, archaeology, and especially the Quechua culture - and was able to introduce us to many local folks and animals. He also knew just what to do and say to encourage 40+ year old me to get up the mountain at the Condor Pass and avoid needing to use the emergency horse and then to get down the steep hillside. Typical for the thoughtfulness of Alpaca was the hot coca tea and sandwiches served at the summit.
All in all, this was the highlight of our 2 weeks in Peru- we experienced Quechua culture-both past and present in a meaningful way, saw sights that few Americans get to see in the Peruvian nature, challenged our bodies and got pampered and educated at the same time. Alpaca Expeditions is the best!

We did the 4 Day/3 Night Inca Trail Trek for our honeymoon and Alpaca Expeditions made sure that it was a magical experience. The guides, Valentine and Juaquine, were amazing. They were great motivators to get us up the mountains and we really appreciated their constant jokes. They really created a great atmosphere between the entire group, including the porters. We all cheered for each other and helped eachother through the tougher parts of the trail. We really had a great time learning about the Inca culture and seeing amazing views. It is for sure a once in a lifetime experience that will never be forgotten.

I would highly highly recommend using Alpaca Expeditions. Although our hiking schedule was a bit more grueling than other companies on day one and two, it was totally worth it because we had more remote campsites and actually had the trail to ourselves at times (something I was afraid we would not get to experience). Plus, we even got to see some ruins that all other groups that have longer day three hiking time do not get to see because they do not have time.

As for the service, it was really top notch. The porters were obviously well outfitted compared to some other companies and the food was seriously unreal. The office staff kept us informed as to when our permits were obtained and even booked a special train for us after the hike because we stayed in Aguas Calientes for a couple of nights. I am very glad that we chose to go with Alpaca Expeditions instead of SAS Travel. Seriously, book your trek with Alpaca now, you will be so happy that you chose the "Green Machine."

I hiked the Inca Trail in May 2014 with Alpaca Expeditions (Valentin & Reynaldo!) and had an absolutely amazing experience. The tour guides were informative, and great people to spend 4 days with! They kept us laughing and making the experience unforgettable. The cook/food was beyond any expectation I could have had! And the porters were truly amazing guys.
This company is really great to work with and I HIGHLY recommend them.
