It's a nice city and a must visit if you plan to go to Machu Picchu. Cathedral is good - you can climb up the tiny stairs in the cathedral and see the view of the Plaza from up there. Pretty good.
But I liked Lima better. It's more of a real city. Cuzco is just a tourist city and you better a lot of USD. Outside of the Cuzco downtown area and the San Blas area, the cobble stone streets, there's nothing much. Local people only work in this area and they don't or maybe cannot afford to shop here. I only saw people who looked like tourists and everything here is catered to tourists. Even the restaurant was playing nba basket ball match at the TV in the Bar.
If you plan to take the train to Machu Picchu, then it's a good area to stop by to get acclimatized to the altitude. Spend a day to get used to it.

I had been before but my husband and teenage daughter were new to South America and Cusco offers just the right mix of the exotic and the different but with a relaxed, safe feel. Plenty to see and do (not to mention the shopping) with good restaurants and bars and good excursions close to the city. If time is short, skip the night in Lima and connect straight here. Top tip : we all took the prescription drug Diamox to counter the affects of altitude and none of us suffered so do talk to your GP - it could prevent nasty altitude sickness.

Cusco has lots of places to visit ,the cathedral is one of them, because when you are inside , you feel like the time has stopped . The atmosphere is amazing, the pictures and the saints transport you to ancient times.Besides this , don t forget to visit San Blas , just round the corner : ) it is a place where you can find beautiful souvenirs , clothes made of wool like sweaters and ponchos and other things that are really eye catching. You will be satisfied.

Brilliant blue skies, historic colonial architecture, and the Andes encircling all. The center for much activity in this historic city.

I didn't like the city that much. I loved Arequipa for example.
People are so used to American tourists that they don't tell you prices in soles, only dollars!!! Only place in Peru where it happened! Even the doctor who visited me when I got sick gave me the price in dollars! Seriously, I'm telling you I am not American and the thing that amazed me the most is that they don't even know the conversion!

Apart from this, Cuzco is a city you visit in one - two days max. The most beautiful things to see and do are out of town, Pisac, Sacred Valley etc.
