To visit Cusco was really worth the travel. It is a lovely old city with a wonderful atmosphere. It is absolutely a must to visit.

So many historic and beautiful buildings, a beautiful wide open square with trees, gardens, etc. Buildings facing the square mostly have wooden carved balconies (Spanish/Moorish influence). Lots of character. Felt very safe here. Similar to Arequipa but bigger with more to see.

I really enjoyed walking round and taking in the beautiful churches and admiring the inca influences around the historic centre. Plaza des armas was especially beautiful with a good museum, and plenty of restaurants and plenty of souvenir shops (albeit overpriced). I managed to get a picture with ladies in traditional Peruvian dress holding a really cute baby llama.

There is nothing about Cusco to dislike--except the altitude. And one gets used to that. From the Plaza de Armas to side streets where building foundations are still Inca walls, to the excellent food, to the museums. Cusco is a feast for all the senses.
