Leave all you premonitions behind and venture into this market. try some of the food, try the cuy. Really one of the most interesting things to see if you're an american or european. I have lived in NYC my whol life and have never encountered anything like it. dont worry about things and just get into it.

A true market, not some kind of tourist only place, interesting to see a bit of local live. All organized by section, vegetables, cheese, spices, etc. Obviously food court is the most attractive part, with a lot of local delicacies to try ; same goes for 'juice section' where almost any fruit or vegetable gets transformed into a delicious juice.

144 types of potatoes, witch doctor stalls, corn, food stands selling sheeps head soup and live frog soup for potency, baskets, whips, clothes, fruits abounding, hideous meat stands and loads of locals, you name it, here it is.
Do have a cuppa on one of the tea and coffee stands, it didn't kill us. The highlight of Cuszco. Mind your bags everyone says, some no-good-niks from Lima come and target tourists.

an interesting way to spend half an hour seeing how the locals shop. The meat/entrails/fish/fruit/flowers sections were the most interesting. Although could have done without the piles of severed donkeys heads with mouths open showing their teeth! Great to see the locals (and some tourists) eating at the food stalls where soup is about 30p and you can have a whole meal for £1.10. A few tourist stalls have crept in but still worth a visit.

We stayed in Cusco for a few days only, but the San Pedro markets was our favourite spot in the city, and a great escape from the other tourist traps in the town. You can choose to just wander around, taking in the sights and sounds. The market sells fresh food, groceries, souvenirs, meat, cheese - and it makes for a nice experience just checking things out. It also has (and this is our fav bit) a big section dedicated to food - rows and rows of juice stalls, breakfast stalls, and lunch stalls. We ate there a number of times - breakfast and lunch - and will highly recommend it. We tried the cafe con leche and the torta for brekkie; and the arroz con huevos y plata (rice with fried egg and avocado), heaped with the special chilli salsa. Delicious!!
