The front desk were very nice. The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable, which is a bonus after being sore from Machu Picchu. There were always a lot of food at breakfast time. Location is very nice and quiet.

I was traveling by myself, and staying here was a very good decision. Staffs were really nice. Especially, the manager helped me a lot with getting around places. It would've been so much difficult for me to visit places without her help. Location is okay. A little bit away from the central plaza, but it's a nice 10 min walk. San Pedro market is 5 min away (you can get some fresh made fruit juice over there) and there's a big super market next to San Pedro. Hostel is very clean and cozy (fresh made coffee and coca tea available all the time). I met some fellow backpackers, which was very fun. I recommend you to stay here if you're going to Cusco.

Room Tip: Bring your own locks and towels.

Essentially a cheap hotel! Lovely rooms, very clean and modern!
Staff not overly friendly but the city and rooms were great interacting with the staff wasn't necessary! Great place to stay after the exhausting treks to Machu Pichu!

Mama Simona is a lovely hostel. We stayed here twice, before and after Machu Picchu. It is very clean, quiet and artistically designed. There was tea and coffee available all day for free. Comfortable areas to relax during the day. There were fresh towels and little shampoos and soaps on arrival. Location very good only a few min from Plaza de Armas. Staff very helpfull and friendly. Overall we would highly recommend!!

Our room was very clean and nicely decorated. it smelled like vomit from the previous guests who were probably soroche barfing. I could hear people puking each night we stayed here. It is not the fault of the place, altitude sickness is a reality.

The place is vibrantly colored and nice, although there is massive amounts of paint peeling off the walls. The bathrooms are shared, but there are plenty of them. I never had to wait for a bathroom.

The people at the front desk were cranky. They would blast music until the late evening. We had a room in the back, but I still had to wear earplugs. When we were in the dining room, front staff would come in and change the channel without asking to watch football.

The breakfast is basic and nice. The room is cleaned daily, which is a nice change from other hostels. Coffee and coca tea are available all day, which is a lovely touch.

This place would be great, if the front desk clerks were given lessons in manners.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back. It's quieter.

We stayed here six nights total while we were in Cusco. We were a group of 4 and booked one of the four-person rooms with shared bathroom. The beds were very comfortable and down quilt provided helped with the cold nights. We did also rent a heater from the hostel which kept the room warm enough. Two items on my wish list - hooks in the room or in the lockers for drying towels and lights on each of the bunks, especially the bottom bunks so you can read without disrupting others in the room.

The shared bathrooms were adequate - mostly clean and had hot water. The space to dress is very, very tight but it worked.

The atmosphere was great - not a party hostel at all and usually very quiet. There is wi-fi in the common area and two computers available. The free breakfast is very minimal (bread and jam) but you can purchase additional items.

There is a tourist information person on site who helped us with directions and booking of a day trip to Sacred Valley. The location is about a 10-minute walk from the main square, and there is laundry service right next door. They have large lockers on the main floor that you can leave your luggage in if you go on treks or excursions. We took advantage of this during our trip to Machu Picchu - note you need to have a pretty small padlock to fit. They sell them onsite if needed.

English skills of the staff varied, and we had trouble getting them to replace the toilet paper in the bathrooms. Allow extra time for checking out if you have multiple people as that process was very slow.

Mama Simona was amazing. Enjoyed my 10 nights stay there.

Location is perfect - very quiet and 5 minutes from San Pedro market.

There is always coffee and mate de coca and wonderful kitchen people would give you something fresh and delicious each morning.

The hostel is named after the sacred peak Mama Simona – the only female mountain deity among twelve others surrounding Cusco. Mama Simona Hostel is like a good conversation over a cup of coca tea rather than a wild party; a comfortable and welcoming refuge away from the standard “just-another-hostel” kind of place; simple wooden furniture and lots of room rather than cramped kitschy interiors.
