I have been staying at Hostal Magico for over a month now, mostly because I have been volunteering with Aldea Yanapay, the social project connected with the hostel. I absolutely love it. It is welcoming, the staff are incredibly friendly, and the rooms are cozy and feel like a home, not a hostel. The whole places is bright and colorful, music is played according to the time and mood of the day, there is a garden with hammocks and flowers everywhere. The prices are very reasonable, and you have the security of knowing that part of your money goes to help the social project Aldea Yanapay, which is located just around the corner from the hostel. Not all of the people at the hostel are volunteers, of course, it is not a requirement at all. It's nice to have a variety of people in the hostel at all times, and no matter how long guests end up staying at the hostel, they are always quickly integrated into the community and made to feel as if they have been there several weeks or more.

The hostel environment is backpacker friendly, family friendly and couple friendly. It is quiet after eleven almost every night, but many of the guests go out and are welcome back any time of the night and no one will be disturbed. The kitchen is well stocked and kept very clean, as are the rooms and bathrooms. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful, and are treated well: they get fair salaries and only work 8 hours a day with days off, the company pays it's taxes, and all of the workers have paid holidays every year. The affiliated restaurant, Cafe Restaurant Aldea Yanapay is run by the same man, Yuri, and has the same philosophy of honesty, good service, and trustworthy causes.

There is nowhere else I would ever stay in Cusco should I come back (and I plan to!)

I stayed at the Hostal Magico for two months while volunteering in Cusco. The beds are incredible, soooo comfortable with a lot of blankets. Also, the rooms are decorated with a lot of love as is the whole hostel. On top of this, it is very close to everything. The staff is very very friendly and the people staying there are great. A lot of them are staying longer and you become sort of like a family, even with people who are there only short term. There is always someone to do something fun and a lot of delicious meals have been cooked in the kitchen. There is free internet, a TV with DVDs and a library with books in many different languages. So whether you want a place for a good night's sleep, a place to make new friends or you want to support a good cause (the proceeds go to the social project connected to the hostel), this is the place to be!

I´ve already been staying at hostal magico for about a month and plan on staying another month! It´s an amazing hostal with a great friendly atmosphere. It´s clean, the decor is really cute and the atmosphere is the best! Not only is it a lovely place to stay, all the profits from the hostel are re-invested into the social project it supports...Aldea Yanapay, a free education project for disadvantaged children. You can also volunteer to work at the project whilst in Cusco (which is what I have been doing)...a great experience and it´s free to volunteer unlike most other projects in teh area! I recommend this hostel to everyone! :)
