We really loved this hotel. It's very unassuming and beautifully designed. Unfortunately, we had a room on the 1st floor and there was no circulation from the outside, so we had a miserable nights-warm sleep. But we would definitely come back and recommend to friends. It is so centrally located and the staff are great! Just be careful of the altitude! We spent 4 days in Ollantaytambo/machu pichu before coming to cusco and didn't have problems with the altitude. But once we got to Cusco, it was a big struggle.

Well worth the booking! Upon our arrival to the airport, we had someone waiting for us. They took us to the hotel, which was only about 15 minutes away and we were greeted with Coca tea, then taken to our room.

The staff had great flexibility, kept our luggage while we traveled to Machu Picchu and even had it waiting for us in our new room upon our return.

We had the opportunity of staying in 2 different rooms, and our second one was more comfortable, especially after our trek to Machu Picchu. It was located above the breakfast area, which has a beautiful and open atrium, making you feel as though you are staying in our own private villa.

The breakfast is pretty good and had good assortments, especially a quinua cereal, which I am dying to find back home!

We booked this hotel based on all the great reviews. Unfortunately it fell short of our expectation on a very simple fact that a taxi which was confirmed to be booked on our behalf never showed up to pick us up from the train station. With the understanding that we were to pay 30 soles for pick up from Poroy station. Because we do not speak the language or know the area we inquired the hotel for their assistance, Karla, who was our correspondent, kindly agreed to help. Unfortunately we waited and waited at the station until we were the last passengers left. Luckily there were a couple of taxis available so we just showed them the hotel address and they brought us here. Upon arrival to the hotel, we told the lady at reception about what happened and she kind of brushed it off, which made us a bit upset. Perhaps she didn't fully understand what we were telling her because of language barriers, but still...a bit unacceptable. She apologized but I'm not certain if she did so just to get us off her back. We weren't expecting anything from the hotel. Just wanted them to recognize that they need to be organized and be accountable for their guest, regardless of the stars outside their hotel.
As far as the room goes, it's nice inside. At least the room we have is unique with a mezzanine, but no window. Only skylight. Ground is slightly slanted to enter the bathroom so it's easy to slip. There is constant cleaning noise or something of the sort all morning. And voices can be heard through these walls.

We went down for breakfast at 9:35am and there was nothing much left but some stale bread a few slices of ham and cheese, and a few sausages floating in a "clay pot".

I'm writing this review as I'm laying in bed at this hotel. We still have one night left here...and to be honest, I wish I was staying at a different hotel.

Although I have to add that they are accommodating with storing your luggages and it's already in your room when you get here. But then again, most hotels would do the same.

Unhappy travelers

Dear Th623,

Thank you for your comment and for telling us about the inconvenient that you had with the taxi that should have picked you up from the Poroy train station.

There is nothing that we value more than the feedback from our travelers in order to continue improving our service every day.

We would like to strongly apologize for the inconvenience that you experienced with that taxi and we can assure you that we are taking the corrective measures to avoid repeating situations as the one happened to you.

Regarding the noise, you are mentioning in your comment, we will revise the room you have stayed in and check if the isolation system is working properly.

Once again, please accept our sincere apologies, and we hope to have the opportunity of serving you again in the near future.

This hotel is about a block away from the Plaza de Armes. (The location on Google Maps was slightly erroneous, as it was a few buildings farther away from the plaza.)

This hotel was an excellent value for the price. Room 401 was very tastefully decorated and comfortable. As earlier reviews have mentioned, room 401 is large and has a great view of the city. The bed was extremely soft and comfortable, and the shower worked well. Free WiFi was available at the hotel, with decent speed. The room also has a semi-private patio (connecting the room to the reception area) with chairs to sit and enjoy the view.

We stayed there on a Wednesday evening, and the music from a nearby disco could be heard in our room (around 10:30pm). When we turned on the TV, then we could no longer hear the disco music. We turned off the TV and were able to sleep even with the music, but if you are a light sleeper, then this may be bothersome.

Breakfast was very good. It is in a beautiful dining room on the first floor (bottom floor) of the hotel.

Room Tip: Room 401 is large and has a great view of the city. The room also has a semi-private patio (connect...

We stayed at the Tierra Viva hotels in Lima, Cusco, Arequipa, and Puno during our recent trip to Peru. The price is very reasonable. The staff are very friendly and customer service is 5 stars! The room is very comfortable. We highly recommend this hotel chain if you are in Peru.

This Cusco's hotel located is a great location, very near to the main plaza. The hotel does have different kind of rooms like many reviewers stated, if you are particular, make sure you are reserving the room you are expecting i.e. inside windows, size, outside but may be noisy, etc. The service is great.

There are a multitude of places to stay in Cusco. We were looking for a very central location (near the Plaza de Armas but just off it enough to avoid the noise), comfortable rooms preferably in an historical setting and a rational price. Tierra Viva Cusco Plaza provided all this. The hotel is in a converted colonial mansion. The rooms are modern with good bathrooms and contemporary furnishings but the common area for breakfast maintains its colonial charm. The lobby and our room were on the highest floor and the other rooms and breakfast area are on two lower floors accessed by stairs. There is no elevator.

Our room, 401, was large and had great views of the city. Between us and the lobby was a semi-private patio with chairs where you could sit and enjoy the view. Everything was great except the mattress which sagged toward the center. During the evening you could hear some music from a nearby disco, but it did not keep us awake. Some of the rooms on the lower floors would be rather dark with windows opening only into courtyards of which there are 2. Those around the smaller courtyard particularly so.

The included breakfast was great. Plenty of food choices hot and cold, juices, coffee; far more than the austere European cold breakfasts we had come to expect in Peru. And the glass covered courtyard where you could eat was delightful. All the staff were helpful and pleasant. They will pick you up free at the airport but not from the further off train station. We arrived by train from Machu Picchu so they agreed to have us dropped off at the airport after our stay.
