This is the first of the two Tierra viva hotels that we booked (the other in Arequipa) and we find it to be a great place to stay. We were a bit worried about noise as read on some TA but our superior room was quiet and elegantly furnished (rm 303). The service was very thoughtful and tentative. A fridge filled with complimentary coke and beer is a good example. The location is great and is only one minute walk to plaza de armas, and the hotel courtyard is great place to sit down for a coca tea and a read.
The only issue we had was with the lady behind the reception. We stayed 3 nights before going to machu pichu for two days, and to come back for an additional night. We asked for a pick up from the train station rather than the airport but was not informed of the additional cost. The staff that we spoke to about the pick up apologized sincerely later and it really was a innocent mistake especially when it was very late at night when we made the enquiry. We were therefore a bit surprised about the taxi fare. However, we were even more surprised how defensive the reception lady was when we tried to explain to her that this cost should have been disclosed when the pick up is arranged. It is only a small taxi fare but I felt her way of managing this small issue is unprofessional and out in keeping with this great hotel.

Dear wendy Y,

Thank you so much for your excellent comment about our hotel.

We sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding that you had with the reception lady during your stay with us. We can assure you that it will not happen again. It is not our standard of service and neither the way we attend our travelers.

Once again, thank you for your comment and we hope to have the opportunity of serving you again in the near future.

We stayed here on both sides of our Inca Trail trek. Amenities were all we needed and breakfasts (included in rate) were exceptional. Wi-fi was strong. Location was perfect - 1 block from the main square and a short walk to all of the top tier dining.

The staff was very attentive and made our logistics easier while we were on the trail (we left luggage with them in our rooms, and they were placed back in our rooms prior to our late night arrival).

Great hotel, with very friendly staff, great location just 4 minute walk from Plaza de Armas.
Delicious breakfast, and super clean rooms. Only problem is that doesn´t have elevator...and that can be difficult when you´re suffering altitude sickness.

We highly recommend it!

We stayed at Tierra Viva twice, on both sides of hiking the Inca Trail, and had a wonderful stay both times.

The location is hard to beat - right off the Plaza de Armas, close to restaurants, shopping, tour offices, etc. It was a quick cab ride from the airport, and walking distance to most tourist attractions and/or meeting points for tour buses. And despite being right off the main square, the hotel was still in a nice, secluded place that was fairly quiet (minus a few hours on Saturday evening!).

The service at Tierra Viva really was phenomenal. All staff spoke excellent English, which was nice since my Spanish is pretty rusty. From the time we entered the hotel until the time we left, we rarely touched our own bags or opened the front door ourselves - there was always someone there to help without ever asking. They went above and beyond to help book tours, recommend places to eat, schedule taxis, etc. On the morning when we first arrived, the room was not ready yet, so they ensured that the breakfast bar stayed open later than usual so that we could have breakfast in the hotel while we waited. We also had a couple of days where we were still in the room during housekeeping hours, and the front desk would always call later in the evening to be sure we didn't need anything replaced in the room since we'd missed housekeeping. They were just very good at being sure we never felt like we needed and/or missed out on anything while we were there and felt valued as guests.

The rooms were very clean, cozy and well-appointed. There was a small space heater that worked well to keep the room nice and toasty, a small safe and a TV with several English stations. The linens were clean and comfy; especially the super-soft alpaca blanket on the bed! The bathroom was clean with plenty of hot water and nice toiletries provided. They also provided two complimentary bottles of water each day, which was nice since you cannot drink/brush teeth with the water. We had a small balcony, just barely big enough for two sideways chairs, but it was nice to have some natural light and fresh air during the afternoons when it was warmer outside. There was also free Wi-fi in the rooms, with a good signal, which was a nice touch.

The common areas were nice, inviting and comfortable. In the lobby area, there were several couches and a balcony with wicker chairs and spectacular views over Cusco. We sat out on the patio enjoying complimentary coca tea several times during our stay. There were also several shared computers with complimentary internet access in the common area.

One other very nice perk was being able to leave our larger packs at the hotel while we were on the Inca Trail for no charge. The whole process was very hassle-free. On the morning we departed, we left our packs in the room, and when we returned, the hotel staff had already placed our packs in our new room for us. I was also able to leave some small personal effects in the hotel safe for safe(r) keeping (my iPad, car keys, etc.). Everything was handled professionally, nothing missing, no hitches, etc.

Overall, for the price we paid, I'm not sure you could beat Tierra Viva in Cusco. We definitely feel like we got more than our money's worth in optimal location, impeccable service and comfortable accommodations.

Our experience at Tierra Viva Plaza Hotel was a delight. We really enjoyed everything about it! The hotel is conveniently located a block away from the main plaza in a cute and small street behind the cathedral. The rooms were comfortable, spacious and very clean. We loved the baby alpaca blanket they give you and the bed was super comfortable! The shower was great and we never ran out of hot water. The staff was really nice and helpful, and the complimentary breakfast was quite delicious. We just really loved this hotel and we will definitely stay here again when we come back to Cusco!

We've been to Cusco 3 times and Tierra Viva is definitely the best hotel we have booked there so far!

I thought strongly about whether to give this hotel 4 or 5 stars. I went with 5*'s because their customer service was unbeatable. We relied on them for so much. They were always friendly and happy to help me practice my Spanish, even though they spoke English well also. They called all our taxis for us, gave us several maps (as we kept losing them) and always made sure the coca tea (which we drank in spades) was full. When we had a poor dining experience at a restaurant they recommended, the manager actually called the restaurant and talked to their manager who offered us a free dinner if we had time to go back before we left.

The room was luxurious and had a few free sodas. We got the second to highest suite and there were no stairs to climb to get there. It was on the same level as the lobby and had a beautiful view of the city. I so enjoyed the hot tub. The only thing my husband and I noticed was that the room and bathroom seemed to be made for someone shorter than us. I don't know why this was (especially in the bathroom). Everything was so nice, but I am 5'6" and had to bend my knees a bit to get the shower head on my hair. This didn't detract from our experience, we had an amazing time. But for someone who is very tall it may be helpful.

The hotel itself was less than a block from the plaza and very conveniently located. We would stay here again, for sure!! The wonderful staff made it feel like home for us!

Room Tip: If you want to splurge, definitely felt special in room 401. Connects to the lobby patio and at nig...

This was a great hotel, the staff was amazing! A special shout out to Victor, who was really kind and helpful, he helped us get our guide book that we dropped on the roof from the hotel balcony! The rooms were gorgeous, and clean, they have a great balcony that you can see almost all of Cuzco from. They offer your coca tea as soon as you come in the door. We didn't have any issues with noise from our rooms. Our Superior suite offered some free drinks and a separate sitting area to relax in! The breakfast was amazing, tamales, sausages, bacon, eggs, lots of bread varieties, fruit and teas/coffee. It's just 2 mins from the main city square. Front desk is willing to help with anything you need. Highly recommended!
