Just finished the 5 day/4 night Salkantay Trek with Cusco Native after my brother reported the adventure to be a great experience and the company to be excellent. I could not agree more. In arranging the trek, Renato was quick to respond to all of our questions and quickly organize the adventure. Logistically, everything was executed seamlessly which allowed me and my friend to focus on the hike and sights and not worry about where we were going or when we were going to eat next.
For my two person hike, we were assigned a porter, cook, and native guide (who had to go to school for three years for this purpose). The cook and porter would move ahead of our group to prepare lunch and dinner so that when it was time to take a break we could immediately eat. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable and fun to spend five days with.
If you are like me you are probably deciding between the Salkantay and Inka trails. I am very happy that I chose the Salkantay trek. It is supposed to be more challenging and while I can't attest to that having not done the other it offered a good aerobic workout but wasn't painful. Having taken this route, we got to hike to base of the snow covered Salkantay mountain and avoided all the tourists. On this less traveled path, we only came across one other family.
I had a great time with Cusco Native and ultimately they took care of everything between picking us up on the first day and bringing me and my friend back to our hostel after visting Machu Picchu.
