My son and I enjoyed an excellent experience with horseback riding, kayaking and bird watching with Amazonas Explorer. We appreciated the guides' attentiveness and enthusiasm. We had a beautiful picnic lunch each day in the beautiful surroundings of Cusco.

Thanks so much for your review and photos! These are some amazing options for day tours in Cusco. As always our guides on the front lines are doing a great job to ensure that your experience is memorable.

Our lunches really set the bar here in Cusco providing all sorts or food that can be prepared to suit any diet or taste. We have our own kitchen here at our headquarters and everything is prepared fresh and with quality ingredients. Many operators source meals out to restaurants or caterers that are looking to cut corners and costs, but we feel that during a full day’s outing, everyone deserves a good meal.

We have started organizing our programs for 2014. Hope to see you in Cusco for a trekking, rafting, biking or outdoor adventure!

My friend and I had played with the idea of doing the full Incan path trek but we found a tour that was super affordable but didn't allow for the trek so we opted for this one-day option through Amazonas Explorers and were thrilled with our decision. First, we had both gotten quite sick in the days before the trek so we were on the verge of cancelling it but luckily felt better and were able to go. Matt from AE was extremely patient and understanding with us, offering even to help us locate doctors in Cusco. Because we had scheduled the trek so late we met with Matt (an AE employee) and JC (our guide) at our Cusco hotel to go over the trek and to pay them (AE does not accept credit cards yet so we paid in $US). We were excited about the next day - even though it meant waking up at 5 am because of a labor strike in Cusco the following day which turned out to be a good idea as a lot of Cusco ended up shutting down that day. Anyway, we were picked up from our hotel right on time by JC and the driver - Matt (an expat from the US) decided to join us last minute. Sounds like AE lets its employees enjoy Peru as much as possible making it seem to be the best job in the world. After a little over an hour, the van stopped at the bottom of a hill in a farming village. Then the trek began. We ascended for a little over two hours and even though breathing was a challenge, the views were well worth the struggle. It was a perfect day - a little cool but with on and off sun. I was shocked that we were the only trekkers on this particular path (from Chinchero to Huchuy-Qusqo) for nearly 7 hours. The only people we ran into were a few farmers in the first couple kilometers and then a sheep herder, 50+ sheep, and two very friendly sheep dogs right after kilometer 8 and before we reached the ruins. Being that removed from people was welcome after a rather hectic six days in Lima, Aguas Calientes, and MP. Also, the pictures of the andes are the most stellar photos from our entire trip - including the shots from Machu Picchu. The lunch was provided by the tour agency - as well as a snack - and all were perfect (think native fruit, filling sandwich, empanada, torta, and candy!). JC was a fantastic guide and in great spirits despite having a little cold and it was fun to pick Matt's brain about Peruvian culture from the perspective of a US citizen. At the end of the trek we realized that some people do this trek (about 13 km total) in two days but that as a one-day trek it is comparable to the 2nd day on the Incan trail (the hardest day according to most trekkers). So while it is one of the most beautiful days I have ever had, I was glad I was in reasonably good shape or it may have taken much much longer. After our long descent down the mountain the van was right there to pick us up and we made it back to the hotel in less than an hour after driving by Pisac and Saqsaywaman (the fortress ruins above Cusco) and said our good byes. It was definitely one of the top two moments in Peru and I recommend the company to anyone interested in doing any trek/rafting tour in Peru.

Huchuy Qosqo Trek (1 Day)—This trek offers some of the best views of the Sacred Valley and is getting more popular as people are looking for alternatives. Thanks so much for writing a stellar review of us and Peru.

We are always looking for ways to help our clients and we work closely with a couple of clinics and their doctors in order to be prepared should something arise. When you are far from home and not familiar with the systems in a foreign country, this service can be a life saver 

We do offer a 2 day option of this hike where you actually camp at the Huchuy Qosqo ruins. The views from this point are breath taking. To see the sunrise from the ruins is something that cannot be expressed in words.

The trek is a challenge but the payoff merits the effort. Because this trek is not as busy as others, it is well kept, clean and a true wilderness experience.

Before I arrived in Cusco, I booked two trips with Amazonas Explorer. One for White wáter rafting and one for Machu Picchu. I had read that you could find cheaper alternatives to these tours but wanted the confort of knowing everything was set a head of time. Now that I have had the actual experience of touring with them, I would not recommend doing the cheaper alternatives for several reasons. First, the quality of service is top notch. Second, they were very flexible and bent over backwards to accomodate us when my son became sick. They saved me a couple hundred dollars on ticket changes and that alone was worth the entire trip. Third, the so called cheaper alternatives, are not really cheaper, Yes you can find something on the fly and save a few dollars, but the time spent and the run around putting a package together is simply not worth the time and effort, The vehicles used were clean and new, the guides knolegable and accomodating. Even when I wanted to do a special tour off the beaten path, Paul (I think the owner) was accessable and even though they did not do the adventure I was looking for, he took the time to give me advice and recommended people I could contact that might be able to help. In sum, top notch, worry free, and worth every cent.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review. We were so glad to show you what Cusco has to offer in the way of rafting and one of the 7 wonders of the world.

We are the experts in travelling in Peru. We have over 25 years operating tours and adventures. You are absolutely right that the time you spend booking all of the details does not leave you with much time to enjoy your vacation. This can be an adventure all in itself and not an enjoyable one.

We are a full service operator and we can handle all aspects of your holiday. All you have to do is get here and we handle the rest. In the event of an emergency, we have solid relationships with embassies, hospitals, doctors and transport to quickly solve any problem/situation that may arise. This goes back to our solid commitment to customer service.

Thank you for your vote of confidence and sharing your experience travelling with us.

We used this company for a day rafting trip in April 2013. They tailored it perfectly to our needs. It was exciting yet safe. Our family consists of two adults and three kids aged 9, 14 and 17. The 17 year has some experience with white water so the guides trailed an inflatable kayak with us so our son could both ride in the raft and try kayaking. Juan Carlos and Cesar are excellent guides. They are knowledgeable, conscientious and enthusiastic. When we left some clothing in the van after our tour they drove all the way back to our hotel in the evening to return it to us. I highly recommend this company.

We got our start over 25 years ago doing what we love, rafting! We also specialize in family trips. We are the only operator in Cusco that has wet suits that are fit for children’s sizes.

We are not like the competition where we have rafting groups of 30 people or so. We always prefer smaller groups and personal attention. We are always thinking of how we can provide the best service that suits the unique needs of every group.

Also, because we take care of our guides, they have no problem going out of their way in order to make sure that everything is positive.

Thank you for your very kind endorsement.

I must have inquired with 4 different tour operators, but Amazonas Explorer was the first to call me back about a tour to Machu Pichu. I said, what the heck lets do it! We wanted a flexible tour and thats what we got! We were in control of everything we wanted to do, and the tour guide we got made our experience even more amazing! It was 150% worth it to book with them, it was a perfect experience. From the moment we got picked up from the airport, to the moment we checked into the hotel, to the moment we reached the top of Machu Pichu, it was great!
