Mucho mucho gracias my friends. The experience was beyond amazing. The owners and staff took us under their wings and treated us like royalty . From tours, to drivers, to extra towels and pillows, to amazing restaurants , to shopping, it's all top notch. We stayed at the end of April after a week in the jungle. They actually helped us when we were lucky enough to extend our trip, and stayed a few days more! Anyone, worldwide, would be at home here. It's owned by family and they treat you like one. They also have a boutique hotel in the Sacred Valley!

We stayed here for 3 nights prior to hiking the Inca Trail and 1 night afterward. When we arrived, the hotel picked us up at the airport and gave us each a steaming cup of coca tea to help with altitude sickness.

The room was so nice. We had a large superior room facing a small plaza. The bed was firm and comfortable and the walls and ceiling were nicely appointed with tasteful accents. The bathroom was great, with a terrific shower head and impeccably clean fixtures/stonework/tile.

The location can't be beat. Short, safe walk to everything (even at night!) yet still quiet. There is a reliable ATM less than a block away, as well as an incredibly convenient bodega/corner store that doesn't up its prices for tourists!

Lastly, the staff was on the ball. The concierge was always quick with a perfect recommendation for dinner and they arranged two separate tours for us (one customized tour with a private driver, and another full-day tour of the Sacred Valley with a group). When we left for the Inca trail, they conveniently stored our things free of charge and our bags were waiting for us in our rooms when we returned from the Inca Trail late at night.

All in all, it was a perfect stay thanks to the great people at Unaytambo!

My husband and I spent 2 nights here prior to hiking the Inca Trail, and 2 nights upon our return. I had spent considerable time researching before deciding on this place and I was thrilled that it was all I had hoped for. As soon as we arrived, the staff handed us mugs of coca tea to help with any altitude related sickness we might have had. The rooms are perfectly sized (we had a superior room for two nights and a standard roon for two nights), the beds are comfortable, and the decor is just charming. The room was a bit chilly, but they have wonderfully large down comforters, and a space heater.

The location right across the street from Santo Domingo cathedral was convenient to everything. We walked all over town and were only a few minutes from the main square. We were SO GLAD we were not staying closer to the square because they were having loud festivals each of the days of our stay! The festivals and parades were wonderful to watch, but would have made us crazy if they were right our hotel all day with all that music and the large crowds all day.

Breakfast offered was simple, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, breads, but they also offered a cooked meal if you prefer. We were satisfied with the fruit and yogurt so we did not try a cooked breakfast.

During one of the days of our visit, my husband and I both had horrible food poisoning. The staff was exceptionally gracious and compassionate. During that afternoon, we attempted to get out for a quick breath of fresh air and they ran right up and straighted our room during our brief absence.

Room Tip: Superior rooms are larger, but the standard rooms are perfectly adequate in size.

PROs
1) We stayed 4 nights and it is in an excellent location , the hotel-house itself has the wow factor as it is a very charming and beautiful house, it seems that it was
an Inca building, a colonial house after and a Hotel now.
2) Rooms are massive(at least the superior) and very nice, a nice and comfortable bed, and bathroom facilities are as good. TV and all the services..Rooms 203, 204 and 205 have views to the plaza
3) Internet in the rooms, however it is a bit slow.
4) The stuff is quite keen on helping you, they kindly helped us with reservations, excursions.... Very very helpful team and in a nut shell, together with the hotel appearance that is there strength
5)Location is very good and quite at the same time.... I would recommend this hotel.

CONs
1)Breakfast is too basic. The "nice" bread was finished quite soon and despite that there was a very kind and nice service from all the staff, it has room for improvement
2) We asked for the room 204 and despite that they confirmed they did only have a similar superior next to it. The room is indeed quite similar but without the balcony but it was a bit disappointing upon arrival.
3) Transport from/to Poroy is not included. It is true that the ride is around 20 minutes and it is not within the city but not further away that a normal European airport.Considering is not a cheap hotel,It would be a nice gesture to include it.
4) They charged me for a call to Lima ( 1 minute call to another hotel) they said that calls within Cusco where all right but others.... Again, for 1Sol or similar and 120 US Dollars per night I would assume that all of this was included. Very disappointing when I heard.
5)the Cab to the Airport was included, but we had to return to the hotel when we were on our way to the airport as the driver hadn't been payed in advance. Once back
in the hotel they payed the driver and then went to the airport. They apologized for their mistake....

I would recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms 203, 204 and 205 have views to the plaza, but ONLY 204 has a center balcony

We stayed here in April of 2012 for 4 nights and couldn't have been happier. The rooms are stunning with classic Spanish/Andean charm and the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. We traveled with another couple (all in our 30's) and spent tons of time in the courtyard. We ate our breakfast out there, had beers, coca tea, etc. The bathrooms in the hotel are modern and brand new!! Large rain shower head too! The hotel is located just 5 minutes walking (if that) from Plaza de Armas and near tons of excellent restaurants. We spent 2 weeks in Peru and this was by far our favorite hotel. We will be back!!

In May 2011 (yes, this review is late...I'm sorry), my family and I stayed at Unaytambo Hotel for 3 nights. My sister and I (22 & 25 years old) stayed in one room while my father and stepmom stayed in another. We loved are time at Unaytambo Hotel for many reasons:

1) The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The linens were crisp and clean and the mattress was nice and comfy after 4 days on the Inca Trail (it could be too soft for people that need firm mattresses though).

2) The bathrooms were spotless and modern. They weren't huge but do you really need THAT much space? The water pressure was good and there was always plenty of warm water for us to use.

3) The whole property oozes beauty and charm. We really felt like we were getting a taste of Peru...definitely not what you get when you stay in a cookie-cutter chain hotel. The ancient doors were a special touch as well.

4) Breakfast was tasty and filling. Don't expect a giant buffet, but you'll have all that you need to get your day off to a great start.

5) The staff was SO nice and helpful. They got us extra towels when needed and even got my stepmom medicine when she was feeling ill. They also sent us to some great restaurants when we asked for recommendations. The free computer in the lobby is a nice touch as well if you need to check your email while you travel.

6) The location was wonderful. We were close to all the "must see" sights in Cusco. Nothing was more than a 15 minutes walk away (and most things were more like 5-10 minutes away). The street that the hotel entrance is located on is one of the most beautiful in all of Cusco (at least that I saw). You'll never get tired of the view as you stroll down the cobblestones...the ruins and llammas on the block don't hurt either ;)

All in all, our stay was fantastic and I would stay at Unaytambo Hotel again in an instant. It was a wonderful and relaxing end to our Peruvian vacation!

We stayed at this hotel before and after our visit to Machu Picchu. It is very centrally located across from the Coricancha ruins and Santo Domingo church. It is an attractive older building with a central courtyard and has been modernized to offer a private bathroom in each room. Room 205 is very spacious and overlooks the church. It is about a 10 minute walk into the centre of the old town (Plaza de Armas) where there are lots of good restaurants.

Room 202, which we stayed in on our return from Machu Picchu, has a sloping floor and two quite high steps in and out of the bathroom. One of us took a nasty fall here.

The staff are very friendly and mostly speak excellent English. Breakfast is included and is very good: cereals, fruit, yogurt, rolls and eggs cooked to your liking.

Oxygen is available free of charge, if required. Also coca tea.
