“Don't stay in the Casa”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2013

I was really hoping that Encantada Casa would be a great experience based on the reviews I read before booking.

There were lots of good things about the property. The staff is incredibly nice - Diego came to our room and made an incredible fire in our fireplace every time we asked him) and the breakfast was delicious (omelettes made to order, fresh fruit salad, delicious jams and cereals). We left our luggage before going on the Inca Trail for 4 days and they delivered our luggage to our room without any problems when we returned from Machu Picchu.

However, I would strongly recommend not staying in the Casa. When we first arrived to our room (which is actually a separate house next door to the property), we were very excited since it was huge (3 bedrooms, 2 baths, living room, dining room) with a fireplace and HDTV. Unfortunately, several issues came up during our stay. On our first day, the Casa had not been fully turned over and we found old food in the fridge as well as mold on the placemats under the plates. There was no toilet paper and we had to call the hotel to have it sent over. Also, housekeeping did not make up our room until past 6pm on one of the days during our stay. I was disappointed as the Casa has a lot of potential for being an amazing experience. Hopefully they will give it more attention in the future.

The main objective for staying further from Plaza de Las Armas was to have a more peaceful hotel. This hotel is very noisy as a spiral staircase from the reception/dining area funnels all the noise to each and every room. The architect did the owners a great disservice. The views are fantastic, however the rooms are very small. I could hardly move around the bed, and there ws no desk, nor chair to relax in. The staff, as others reviewers have stated, is fantastic. However, I would not stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view. Stay away from lower level rooms unless noise doesn't bother you.

The people at Encantada Casa were incredible. They were very efficient and flexible - check in was a breeze, they handled our luggage with care and safety, and the room was beautiful. On our last night in Cusco, our flight was cancelled. It was later in the night and we had no place to stay, so went back to Encantada Casa. After telling them that our flight was cancelled, they essentially handed us keys to a room and told us we'd get the details figured out the next morning. It was an incredibly thoughtful gesture and went above and beyond in helping us out.

As for the hotel itself, it has nice rooms, many of which have great views, which are clean and comfortable. The food at the in house restaurant was surprisingly good and was handy in a bind. The breakfast was solid, with good variety. A really nice touch was that they put warmers in the bed each night, so you're crawling into toasty sheets.

Overall, it was a great experience and we'd definitely stay again.

I spent two nights at this nice boutique hotel from October 16th through 18th 2013. The attention from all personnel was very kind. However, the room I was assigned it was too small. It looked like there were only room for the bed. It was also a little noisy. I could hear the conversations from people moving on the stairs or even in the little restaurant downstairs. I must say the price ivery acceptable in terms of what the place offers. The fare (I paid $100 dollars per night) included breakfast, wich was not so vast but it was all right. My room didn't have a view to the city, wich was not right since I made my reservation months ago (altough I honestly don't remember if I did it directly through their site or via Despegar.com).
Cusco is a beautiful place and in order to enjoy it one must hike a lot. Such is the case for this hotel, located at the very top of the San Blas area. It is a little tiring to get there from the Plaza de Armas. I dont't know if I would stay there again but I don't regret or complain about the place. I didn't enjoy it as much as other hotels I was during my stay in Peru, tough.

We stayed here three nights, two before our trip to Machu Pichu and one after. The hotel is in the San Blas area; quiet narrow streets on a hillside overlooking the city. The streets are well lit and feel safe at night. The hotel is quite stylish and very comfortable. We had a balcony room with great views. The large bed was very comfortable and the added luxury of a hot water bottle each night is something other competitors could take note of. The bathroom was a good size with a powerful shower and plenty of hot water. Breakfasts were good and the made to order omelettes delicious.
On our third night after a very slow, exasperating return train journey from Machu Pachu we were welcomed back and the luggage we had left behind had been taken up to our original room in readiness for us. All the staff were consistently helpful and friendly.
The hotel is built around a central spiral staircase which is very attractive but it does funnel noise up through the building which can be disturbing late at night.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden room or a balcony room.

My family with two young children (2, 4) stayed here for three nights. We wanted a smaller hotel in an "original" neighborhood and this boutique's location offered authenticity, albeit steep hills and stairs. Our room was on the top floor next to the spa and outdoor patio; it had a nice view of the city. We had several meals in the restaurant, mainly breakfast and dinner - home cooked Peruvian food that was quite delicious.

My husband and I had massages one afternoon. He thought the therapist was OK, but for me, it was a rather unpleasant experience. She didn't apply enough pressure despite several requests and the worst thing was the cacophony of music being played in the spa and drifting through the open window. I mentioned it to the receptionist and she didn't charge us for the massage - great customer service! The staff was wonderful with the children. To the extent, that one of the staff risked life and limb to climb onto the roof to get a balloon that my son allowed to slip from his little hand.

A word of advice: Walk down to the Plaza, lots of interesting side streets and stores to explore; but definitely take a taxi back up to the hotel - inexpensive and very handy.

We enjoyed this hotel. It has a heater in the room plus they bring a hot water bottle at night. Breakfast was fine. It was just a 10 min walk from shopping around the main plaza (but remember it's uphill coming back, and there is a spiral staircase, not an elevator, to your room). The only downside: the toilet is set to water saving mode such that the tank only fills enough to flush about once every half hour. Normally that's fine but if there is more than one of you in the room and/or you get sick (which I did) that is not good, especially if you are losing it at both ends. You can imagine.

Coca tea is free in the lobby along with a basket of coca leaves in case you want to chew them straight. I noticed a tank of oxygen in the corner of the lobby for those who need extra help with the altitude. It's a 5 min walk to the Panchapapa restaurant on the lower side of the San Blas square so consider that for lunch or dinner if you stay in the Encantada. The area wasn't the cleanest or fanciest but felt authentic and safe. The hotel desk people were helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: Get a room facing toward the Plaza de Armas so you have a view of city lights instead of a side stre...
