Owner description: We are an Cultural interpretation center about how the Andean people understand the skies. The explanation in two rooms give us a great perspective, in dome we learn about southern sky and finally, if weather allows, we enjoy some stargazing!

We decided to visit the planetarium based on the great reviews on Tripadvisor although this place was not listed in Lonely Planet's SA on a shoestring. It turned out that this was not the wisest financial decision as the cost of 50 soles/ pax was a tad too expensive, given that we didn't get any actual viewing of the stars due to the rain. The 1hr+ presentation was rather interesting with a good introduction to Incan astronomical beliefs, plus Ana Maria is a very knowledgeable, friendly and engaging host. While the weather is beyond's anyone's control, we felt that the planetarium could have reduced the entrance price of 50 soles by at least 10-15 soles as a matter of goodwill when it rains. I also think if the group is big (10-20), the price should also reflect the time one gets at the telescope.

My wife and I were in Cusco last April. Very last minute we decided to visit the planetarium. They were flexible with their hours and stayed open late for us. A driver met us and we drove up the beautiful hillside to a quaint planetarium where we were greeted by Ana Maria, our host. Ana Maria had a vast knowledge on the Peruvian sky and it's influence on the ancient and modern cultures. We saw star formations through a telescope and sat under the cold stars with blankets while drinking hot Munya tea. Sitting on the Cusco hillside we had great discussions on the Inca, their agriculture, and it's influence from the stars. This was a very intimate and unforgettable experience.

The Cusco Planetarium have friendly and enthusiastic staff but the program could be better. I think the cost (50 Soles) is a bit high for the 1 1/2 hour presentation but the pick up and drop off was nice. The program included quite a bit of time in their dome on constellations but when we went out side they didn't point out any of the constellations they discussed inside. We only spent about 10-15 minutes outside actually looking at the stars. The lighting from the neighbours made seeing things difficult.

I am interested in astronomy and found the program mildly interesting but I have no idea how it could be rated as the 8th best attraction in Cusco.

Dear TurnerGolfer
Thank you for taking your time to make a review about your experience at Cusco´s Planetarium.
Sadly, we didn´t fill your expectation, however you are giving us the opportunity to talk about some issues. First, November, December, January and February are not the best time for us. It is already rainy season in Cusco, and we have not the opportunity to show on telescopes, as many object as we wish. Besides the weather, we need to improve the communication with people to be clear that some of the constellations won´t be available for the outdoors part, on the time of the night, and day on the year that you make the visit.
We realize the pick up and drop of is important, so we will keep doing this. We will keep working on the lecture on inkan astronomy as a plus to a better understanding to your visit in Cusco, and for sure, we will see what we can do with the neighbor’s lights.

How we got on the 8th place on Trip Advisor? Maybe our enthusiasm is, as many people said, so infectious, that we are keeping the level of spectation too high. So thanks for keeping us real.
We hope you still got a wonderful experience in our beloved country! All the best to you

Ana Maria

The Planetarium is definitely a place to visit during your stay in Cusco. It is run by Ana Maria and her family, including their cute dog, and they really do their best in order to give the visitors all their knowledge as well as their sincere passion. For this reason they did organise the visit even we were a group of three people, while they usually organise visits for at least six people. All the explanations are comprehensible even for those who are astronomic illiterate and they make you discover a new world! Since the Planetarium is quite far from the center, they pick you up in town and they drive you till the Planetarium.

I found this to be a nice experience. The fact that this planetarium is so different from what you expect makes it very special. Located in a small rustic cottage by the hills where they give you a presentation and teach you about the starts and constellations projected on a dome. Then, you go outside (gets cold but they provide warm blankets) where you can look at the beautiful open sky and see the moon, stars, and galaxies using their professional telescopes.
The organizers' passion about their ancestors and astronomy quickly immerses you into it. If you have the time, this is an experience to remember.
