“Difficult to find initially but great stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2012

We had trouble finding the hostel initially as our taxi driver wouldn't drop us close enough. He actually wanted to take us somewhere else initially and we had to convince him to take us to where we were booked with the help of a local.

Good clean hostel with quiet rooms but only a 10 minute walk to the main square. We could walk to anywhere we wanted to go.

It was a little cold when we were there and a heater was supplied when asked for. Very good breakfast.

The staff were friendly and could assist with travel planning.

Highly recommended.

Good pizza and wood oven chicken restaurant at the end of the lane and cheap laundry within 5 minutes.

My partner and I spent 4 nights at Hostal Girasoles in Cusco and enjoyed every second. The beds were very comfortable and the water was HOT! (it was cold in Cusco when we were there this past week. I have to give the owner credit for her advance trip help as well. I had a horrible time booking train/entrance tickets to Machu Picchu (apparently a lot of people do). I had emailed Mercedes about my frustration and she very kindly offered to go get our MP tickets (since they now limit the number of people who can visit on any given day, you don't want to get there and NOT be able to get in). Her help was really appreciated!
Everyone who worked there was super friendly, and they arranged a great private guide for us at MP, taxi rides, maps you name it, they couldn't do enough for you.
Our room was very quiet and on a little atmospheric street quite close to the center of town. I was very sorry to say goodbye to our little piece of Cusco particularly at the price which was a steal! I would recommend this hotel to anyone. AND I agree with the previous poster that this needs to have the "hostal" taken out of the name. It feels more like a clean and friendly budget B&B. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Ask for a heater to be brought up! Cusco gets COLD at night!

This place should not have hostal in the title as it is more of a B & B than a hostal. I was pleasantly surprised with what i got for my money.Overall this place was good. The staff there was friendly and accomodating. the other guests (some long term medical students) were very nice as well.
However there was a problem with the hot water. I spoke to the guy in reception and he changed the gas cylinder. The problem happened again the next morning.

Room Tip: ask for a room away from the stairs as it seems to amplify the noise

The only drawback here was that the water in my room was good pressure and hot...but the hot valve turned on its own making the temp hard to adjust. Really petty! The rooftop terrace is a great spot to take in the city or enjoy a morning yoga workout.

We had a matrimonial room with en-suite bathroom. It's a very nice hostel - clean, nice English speaking staff, decent breakfast, cool roof patio with good views of the city, and is located on a quiet street with minimal traffic. However, there is a strange opening above the room doors that lets a lot of noise in when people are moving around in the hallways.

We, a family of two adults and three children, stayed in two rooms at the Hostal Girasoles for 6 or 7 nights in early December 2011. The entire place is kept spotless, you could eat your breakfast off the floors. We liked the location near the center of the city but at the end of a cul de sac that kept road noise down at lot. (Of course there were the early morning noise issues that we found everywhere in Peru, roosters crowing and the occasional dog barking, but a hotel cannot control the entire neighbourhood). The staff people were very attentive, helpful and were great with our kids.
We don't know what the ususal room rates are but we paid US$40 per room. Given the quality of the place and how it was run, we found this a decent value for money

I stayed for five week from june untill july 2011. from the moment Laura met me at the airport I felt very comfortable at home. During my whole time there if I had a problem, it would be fixed immediately. The rooms and en suite are cleaned every day, and the whole place was spotless.
The staff were happy to organize tours and a hotel in a another city if it was needed.
I loved my time there, it's more of a home away from home than a hotel!
Ask luis to teach you how to make a Pisco Sour!
