From the moment Mercedes (the owner) met me at the airport I knew this would be a good place to stay. It is only a short walk into the main plaza yet in a quiet location. The rooms are plain but there was always hot water. The included breakfast of bread, eggs, jam and coffee or tea was yummy. Tea, coffee and coca tea were always available. I stayed a total of 6 nights between my Inca Trail trek and Lake Titicaca. Mercedes also arranged my trip down to Puno and Lake Titicaca including homestay and it was perfect.

Mercedes and her staff go the extra mile to improve your stay in Cusco. The hotel is very quiet due to it's location on a narrow dead-end street. Large windows yield bright, cheery rooms (we sampled 3 due to our coming and going) with fine views. They can be chilly if the weather is cool. If so, request a heater! There is a rooftop courtyard, we used it to stargaze. The hotel is locked at all times, but a knock was always answered promptly. I don't think that they really had a restaurant, but they have a kitchen and serve a nice breakfast, and coca tea on arrival or on request.

We booked the Hostal Girasoles primarily because of the reviews on Trip Advisor and at $40 a night we were not let down. One of the attractions was the reports on the owner Mercedes who spoke excellent english and met us as promised at the airport. This was our first time in Peru and we spoke no spanish. We spent three nights here and then came back for a night a couple of days later. The Hostal is slightly awkward to get to if you are travelling on your own. The access road is very busy and the Hostal is around 50 meters off the access road. For us it was fine as we were on a guided tour. At night we walked into the Plaza which took us around 5 minutes and we felt quite safe walking back after dinner. Internet access was fine. The room was also fine and the water always hot in the shower.

Stayed one night at this hostal. Very sweet and lovely family, caring and good service but the facility is not worth the price.
The mattress was awful and at 5.30 in the morning we were enjoying rooster's croaks till 8 a.m. It wasn't pleasant, especially then we came back from several days hike and wanted some time to rest. Not the best location, surrounded by small local houses with yards with chickens, roosters and other animals.
As I've told, the service is very good and reliable, the owner is really trying to help you with a good advice and they serve simple breakfast that included. But for this price it's possible to get hotel with much better facilities and better room and location.

we liked this little hote and spent there 6 nights. the owner, Mercedes helped us orgenizing our tours in reasonable prices and helped us with any problem we had.
the room was basic but had a nice window. the location is ok, short walk from the center, through a narrow buisy street. the hotel itself is in an small alley with no cars.
for budget travellers i recomend this hotel.

Room Tip: not all the rooms have good windows.

I stayed at the hostel for about a month and it really was like a home away from home. Mercedes, the owner of the hostel is so lovely, kind and helpful. Anything you want to do, Mercedes will arrange it for you in no time! She knows all about the excursions and which to book and how. When Mercedes is not around, Luis and the rest of her team are just as helpful. It was a delight getting to know everyone.
The hostel itself is clean and comfortable. The rooms are spacious and have all of the basic amenities you need. It is located close to the main plaza and it is possible to walk around and explore the beautiful city of Cusco using the hostel as your main base. I would defiinitely stay again on my next trip! :)

Mercedes, the owner of Hostal Girasoles, is wonderful. She tried very hard to make us feel at home and went out of her way to help us plan our time in Cusco and in the Sacred Valley. Our three children (ages 12, 10, 8) had a triple room and my husband and I shared a room one over.

When I first made the reservation, Mercedes offered to set up our MP trip as well. Although one of the connections was missed (a ride from Ollantaytambo back to Cusco after MP) by the person she set up, she did reimburse us for our cost in hiring another driver. And when our plans changed on the fly (going to MP the day we arrived in Aguas Calientes instead of the day of our return), Mercedes was able to set up a very competent guide immediately.

We stayed there a total of 4 nights -- two before MP and two after. Laundry we dropped off beforehand was ready upon our return.

Overall, an extremely satisfying experience.
