“We would live here if we could.”

Finally after more than a year I am reviewing this awesome hostel.(September 2010)

We stayed for three weeks, and if we didn't have to move around Peru, we would have stayed longer. The staff was extremely friendly, the rooms were very clean(for South American Standards), and the location is excellent.

The staff respected us even though we were quite obviously vulnerable tourists. They gave us great deals on rooms, and never harrassed us if we were a bit late paying. They even let us store our bags for a week, free of charge, when we went into the amazon.

The rooms were very clean, with own bathrooms(if you got the privates) and the second one we had even came with a tv. The rooms were pretty quiet, and had sufficient blankets for the cool nights.

Location was excellent, right across from San Pedros Mercado, and a short walk to the Plaza de Armas.

They had a pool table, free use of internet, and free breakfast which was Eggs, buns, and jam. Which was always tasty. They also had dogs on the room which was kinda funny.

We would stay here again! Recommended!

Room Tip: Privates were great!

We spend 2 weeks in the hostel in a double room with private bathroom.
The room was clean (they clean and organize the room dailly). The only problamatic thing i can say is the sheer curtains...it make you wake up really early but we learned to realize most the hostels share this problam.

Sonia, the owner, is really nice and do everything to make you feel wellcome.
However, when she organized our trip to machu picchu (trains, buses, Hostel near by and entrence), it was a complete muss. If you ask me, just take the time and organize it on your own.

overall, it was a good way to start our trip in south america.

The hostel was not too clean, not too friendly but for one or two nights it was fine. I was offered a cup of mate de coca on arrival, in order to be able to adapt to the high altitude, and the woman at the reception seemed nice. She even suggested me and my friend a place to eat in the city centre, which was a few hundred meters away.
But as the day and a half I spent in Cusco went by, I noticed there are much better places to stay, such as San Blas neighborhood: when you face the cathedral in Plaza de Armas, take the road on the cathedral's immediate right and walk up to a colourful, lively neighborhood where the artistic scene is.

Also, I had booked a bed in a dorm for three nights before arriving to Cusco, but in the end I stayed only for two nights and went to Machu Picchu on the third day. The woman made me pay half of the third night, and when I got back from MP to collect my luggage and asked to have a shower before leaving, I had to pay for the shower too... it was ok, but they could have done without it. All in all, not more than decent.

Room Tip: Not sure what's the best room, I stayed in a dorm and it was ok, just a bit cold, and totally em...

We had two spells on this hostel. This first was actually really nice. Nice rooms, nice breakfast. Helpful owner.

We then went to Machu Picchu for the night and when we returned everything change.

The new room was dark and dingy. We were now charged for eggs at breakfast where before they were free. We received one bread roll rather than the previous two.

On checkout the owner tried to charge us for a bottle of water he claimed he bought.

But worst of all we asked the hostelier to book us tickets on the Cruz del Sur bus to Ica. We gave him three days notice and on the day we were leaving we had to pester him three times for the tickets and he finally handed over tickets for another bus company - which was awful. The hostelier told us the bus we wanted was cancelled but when we arrived at the station we asked at the Cruz desk and were told it ran with no problems.

But worst of all the bus tickets had the price printed on it 110s and he wanted us to pay 140s. When we pointed this out he immediately pulled the no-speakey-de-English routine.

Very disappointing

The staff are great, but the hostal itself is in dire need of some TLC. We booked a double with ensuite room, we were put in the part of the building facing onto a road which is very noisy- the rooms at the back are better. Place seems to have an issue with old plumbing - both rooms we were in stank as soon as shower or toilet was used, so would recommend not paying for an ensuite. Not the best value for money as can find cheaper and better in cuzco
