“Exceeded Expectations”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2012

We were 3 females in their lower 20s on their first trip to Peru, let alone Cusco. We had heard about Second Home bed and breakfast through South American Explorers Clubhouse, and we are very glad that we made that decision. Everything about this place was amazing. First of all, our room: 2 bedroom, living room, full bathroom—all with skylights, feather pillows/beds, a TV, and a safe. Every day they cleaned the room and left new bottles of water (much appreciated in a city where we do not drink the tap water). The owner was really accommodating with our schedule. He sent a taxi to pick us up at the airport, then checked us into our room at 8 AM. On the day we went to Machu Picchu, he arranged to have our breakfast ready at 5 AM, with a taxi waiting to take us to the train station (and to pick us up). We were super-impressed with the breakfast. Fresh-made orange juice, coffee, bread out of the oven with jam, yogurt with granola, eggs made to order….everything tasted fresh and homemade—a great way to start the day. We wished we could have stayed there longer. We feel as if the owner went above and beyond and exceeded all of our expectations. We have no complaints whatsoever and highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anybody traveling through Cusco.

we enjoyed our vocation in Cozco during living in second home, Carols was a very nice and kind guy with well-manner and intimately, and he is also a good cook, the hand-made bread, jelly, butter what offered in breakfast were so relish, the fried and scrambled eggs what Carols made is the best I've eaten.

Carlos is an amazing host - he seems to always be present and doing everything he can to provide for his guests. He had suggestions for two days worth of touring the Sacred Valley and arranged for a charming driver (Eduardo). Although Eduardo spoke limited English we enjoyed our days with him and he was an excellent guide. Carlos willingly shares his knowledge and we really looked forward to our morning chats with him. Arranged for laundry and reservations for dinner, and always there when we asked for another bottle of water

I booked through expedia but you can book direct. The B&B only has 3 rooms. I chose it because of its location - San Blas - and its excellent reviews.  It was not cheap - you can stay in many other reasonable places in Cusco for less. But it was worth every penny. Carlos was exceptional. His replies to emails were instant.  He offered to pick us up at the airport on our arrival even though we did not stay with him that night. (I feel terrible because he actually went to the airport to get us - a miscommunication I believe was due to translation.) He was constantly asking to accommodate all of our needs. He cooked us breakfast to order (eggs).  He would book any tours or services we needed. He booked our dinner reservations and our Huayna Picchu tickets - at face value. He held our bags while we were on the Inca Trail, and then he delivered them to our next hotel in Cusco. The morning we had to leave for our trek, he got up before 5am to make us tea and say goodbye; he even packed us a picnic breakfast to go. The room was a suite and it was very nice. Make sure you have good directions. Because it is small, it is not well-known. The addresses on the street are random - not in numerical order. You cannot take a taxi directly there because the street is pedestrian only.  I hesitate to say anything negative but feel I must disclose one thing - the room is not sound proof. You can hear the other activities like you would in your own home. I didn't mind though - since it made it feel more like home.  Our Second Home :)

We stayed here with our seven year old daughter. We had a seperate bedroom area from the area that was the living room. Carlos arranged for a bed in the living area for my daughter.

When we arrived we were greeted with hot coca tea and hospitality! The room was great, the included breakfast was great as well. Carlos arrranged for our cab ride back to the airport. The location in San Blas was close to everything, and we walked to the Plaza de Armas, restaurants, shops and other sites.

The only concern I would have is that the floors were squeaky. Didn't bother me, but I am not sure how it sounds downstairs (although I think that Carlos lives under the room we stayed in). I would recommend this place without hesitation, and would have liked to check out Second Home Peru, if I had the chance!

We spent three nights at Second Home Cuzco. Carlos was always there to greet us and assist with anything we might need from an electric heater to transportation needs. Every morning he had a full breakfast available for us. The room was clean, well appointed, and quiet. Internet was free and available in the room.
Highly recommend.

You know you are going to have a good stay when you are greeted with a smile and tea. Carlos is knowledgeable and relaxed. He was able to recommend the best plan of attach for our half planned journey to Macchu Picchu and a great driver Wilbert who speaks little English but has a delightful sense of humour and in good at Spanglish and sign language.

Second Home is in the old beautiful area. The walk amongst the cobbled streets with cafes, shops, and museums is interesting and enjoyable. We found a rest essential to cope with the altitude, but after a day, we were fine.

We stayed a a few places in Cusco. Second Home is the best. No doubt. The bedding is very comfortable and clean, the courtyard ensures privacy and a quiet environment for sleeping. the rooms are generous. We had a separate lounge area, which was really great relaxing after a hard day in the town!

More expensive than others, but worth it. Only regret is we didn't stay longer.
