When we checked in around 7pm we were greeted by a staff member who was the most helpful person we've ever met at a hotel. She was very friendly and truly wanted to help us find the information we needed. We were also served hot coca tea with sugar that was complimentary (as much as we wanted). When we returned that night they offered us tea again if we wanted it.

The receptionist called taxi's for us to find out prices on touring the city by taxi the next day as we only had until our noon flight to see as much as we could. She found us a reliable driver who showed up on time the next day for only 50 soles including dropping us off at the airport in Cusco after visiting every site you'd possibly want to visit in Cusco. We could get out and take pictures as we wanted.

She also recommended restaurants for us and since she was heading back home, she actually walked us to the restaurant! Talk about personal service. Great location - only minutes from the main plaza and many good restaurants and shopping.

The next morning, because they are remodeling their center courtyard area, they served us breakfast in our room at whatever time we wanted it including unlimited bread, jam, butter, coffee (with milk if desired), and orange juice.

Very, very old hotel. So old that you use a padlock to lock your door as there are no knobs/handles. Very secure feeling though and the main front door is locked so only hotel guests can enter the hotel.

Free internet to use in the lobby but the Internet was pretty slow so I wouldn't recommend using it if you have much business to take care of. Was nice to have though to send out a few emails and check our flights.

the owners are so nice and helpful, and the staff too. really enjoyed this place.
kitchen use for free, free internet, hot water!!
the location could be better, but for that quality of cheap hostel it's no thing to walk a bit longer.

My mother sister and I stayed at the hostel for a night and then I liked it so much that I stayed another two nights when traveling alone. The rooms were comfortable with plenty of hot water, free internet and breakfast included. Señora Lida and the others at the hostal treated me like family, gave me great advice on places to go in and around Cuzco, and even held my luggage when I went to Choquequirao. Although a bit farther from the Plaza de Armas than other hostels, the distance is still walkable, and I had no trouble even at night. I would recommend this hostel even for women traveling alone.

We stayed at Hotel Quipu before and after our 4-day Inca Trail hike. Although we did not speak a lot of Spanish, Senora Lida was very nice and friendly and did her best to communicate with us and help us out whenever we had questions. When we returned to the hotel after our hike, it was like we were returning home to old friends or family.

The accommodations are basic but clean and it is a bit of a walk outside of the main sites but only about 10 minutes or so. I also found the pillows a bit uncomfortable but that may be because I prefer a softer pillow than the hard ones they had.

We had a wonderful stay here. It really was a welcoming hostel. When we arrived we were offered Coca tea to help us aclimatise to the high altitude. The room was lovely and the beds were very comfortable. Everyday they would clean the room while we were out, which was a very nice service and not often found in hostels. They include a free breakfast which is basic but does the job (tea/coffee, jam, bread, juice) The only downside to our stay was the tour we booked through Darwin´s company who is affiliated with the hostel. The jungle trek to Machu Piccu including biking was really disorganised. We had no tickets to Machu Piccu when we arrived to walk up to the site we were told we had to go and buy them and that then we had to catch the bus to catch up with the rest of the group. We were not refunded the money for the bus tickets but we were refunded the money for the extra ticket to Machu Piccu. This is no reflection on the fabulous hostel and people working there who did everything they could to make our stay a happy and pleasant one which it was. Cusco is a fantastic place too. If you are booking a tour go to a reputable company in town and DO NOT BOOK THROUGH PHUYO TOURS OR THE HOSTEL.

I traveled with 2 other people in Nov. 09 and stayed at this Hostal. They were very accomadating, friendly and the room was very clean. It is suitable for familes as well as backpackers. Breakfast was decent. There is a central kitchen which you can use for other meals. I would highly recommend. Winterwren

There is nothing to be faulted here. The service is the best we have encountered, better than many 5 star hotels in the UK. Very friendly. The breakfast is very basic and the rooms are perfect. Highly recommended for travellers on a budget. The staff are extremely helpful and can offer very good local knowledge on where to visit and where to eat.
