“Nice Hotel - bit out of the Way”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

We spent 4 nights here
3 before machu and 1 after
No lift, however the staff carry up your luggage
Breakfast was from 5.30 - with a 5.50 departure not everything was out on dispaly by this time
However a nice pleasant hotel
its just a set 4 sols taxi ride into and out of town - well worth at night and after a heavy days sightseeing

Normally my reviews of hotels are positive, but this hotel had many problems - punctuated by the wakeup call at 6:30 that i did not request on my one day to sleep in! During the four night stay (2 nights before Machu Picchu and two nights after) - I had to twice request hot water the second time it never came, the hotel is also very far from the main square. we did stay out quite late on a friday night and it was safe to walk back to the hotel but it was a bit of an uphill walk.
the staff was ok, but they couldn't tell me where the Machu Picchu musem was located!
The breakfast was great, and their are two computers available for guests so that is great.

Clean, warm showers, room heating good and breakfast was nice. Staff friendly and helpful.
We used Mamasara as a base before and after a trip up to Macchu Picchu. Would stay there again! Short walk to Plaza de Armas.

When you walk into MamaSara you think what a cute hotel and wow there is nothing else around. The hotel is a walk or cab ride to everything. They offer breakfast in the morning which was fine. Honestly, the reason I would not recommend is the hotel staff was not friendly, the rooms were FREEZING (even after they "turned on the heat"), they tried to charge us for a local call and forget about them being gay friendly. I guess this is to be expected in Peru but the staff would not accept the fact that 2 men wanted 1 bed. You can do better.

Mama Sara is a few minutes by foot from Cusco's Plaza de Armas, and right in front of the steep street you must take to go up to Sacsay Huaman.

The hotel itself is very pretty, even if it's not disability-friendly (lots of stairs!). In the main area, where you eat breakfast, there are tea and books available all day long, and comfy couches to enjoy them in. Breakfast is delicious and much more varied than in most hotels in Peru, boasting cereal, lots of fruits and different kinds of bread.

The rooms are beautiful, not too big, but with large windows. The beds are quite comfortable. The bathrooms are equipped with a bath that you can actually use. Because there is a tea station on every floor, you can easily grab a cup of hot water to brush your teeth if you need to.

The tour I was with arranged for them to keep our luggage while we went into the Sacred Valley. A nice plus!

Room Tip: I think all the rooms look great!

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Facilities excellent and staff helpful and friendly. Breakfast the best I've had in Peru. The only slight downside is the 15 minute walk to the main square (uphill on the way back), which wasn't really a problem, but you may prefer to stay somewhere more central.

Room Tip: My room was close to reception but I wasn't disturbed by any noise

OK, not five stars (or even 4) but very clean and well maintained. A lot of care has gone into the little touches with this place (e.g. flowers painted on the ceiling) and the staff are very friendly. If cleanliness and location are top of your list, then this is your place. Short walk to town and spotless - almost anally retentively so! Not what you expect in Peru. In UK terms, think Premier Inn.
