“Our home in Cusco”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2013

We stayed eight nights in this hostel and always felt very welcome. Although the rooms are a bit cold (you won't find a place in Cusco where they aren't) you will find everything you need (hot showers, comfortable beds, free coca tea). For breakfast you get bread and marmelade. If you stay in the superior room you even get eggs and juce. We had to leave very early for our booked tours and they served us the full breakfast at 5.30am! We arrived in Cusco by plane and got picked up at the airport for free. Their laundry service is very quick and cheap. We also enjoyed the view from the balcony while drinking coca tea. So if you are looking for a home base in Cusco Samay Wasi is definitely a good choice.

+ hot (and powerful) showers!
+ heater in room
+ free pickup from bus station (the don't have a car so they will meet you and pay for the taxi)
+ rooms on second level have awesome view
+ friendly staff
+ good cheap laundry service
+ second floor room has tea/coffee facilities in room

- it's true what others say that the walls/floorboards are very thin, and you hear a lot of noise/conversation. We were on the second floor, but our friend had the room directly below us and he said he could hear every footstep.
- breakfast area very cold!
- blankets very, very heavy (a duvet would have been more comfortable) and thin white curtains let in all the light.

Overall this is a great budget hostel in the lovely area of San Blas. Wanted to extend our stay but unfortunately they were full.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the second floor.

We really enjoyed our stay at Samay Wasi hostel. We have to climb stairs to get there, but believe us, it really worth it !!!

The hosts were really welcoming, always ready to help us. They came to get us at the bus station when we arrived. They also helped us everytime we had questions about Cusco. They offer a laundry service which was really appreciated! Rooms were really clean, with lot of blankets because it was cold at night. The view from the place is amazing and it is really quiet at night. We really appreciated the computer with internet in the common room. The breakfast was correct, with tea, bread and jam. We could buy some extra thing like eggs of fresh juice if we wanted.

We stayed at this hostel six nights, before and after our trek to Macchu Picchu. We left our luggages there while we left for 5 days. We also could leave valuables of the reception desk. Everything was there at our arrival after our trek... and our lugagges were already in our bedroom!

We definitely recommend this hostel to everyone! :-)

This hostal will guide from Pervian woman. It is very clean and nothing is missing. There is a delicious breakfast. Also you can sit in the afternoon on the balcony and you have a nice view about Cuzco.

We selected this place by the positive reviews.. but our experience was not that positive.
The first room that we were giving (the first double, first floor right after the entrance door) was a damp. Sorry but there is no other name of it, it smelled terribly! their toilet system in need of fixing. We had asked for a nice double room and this is what we get... :S

After complaining they did changed us to another room which was more acceptable (first floor, 3 room from the entrance door). But still this place is really in need of a renovation.

Please leverage that nice money you are getting and improve the facilities otherwise you will loose customers!

The lady that runs the place is really nice and helpful but the other girls in the reception are in need of some customer satisfaction training. They don't provide helpful info and they see to get confused very easily with simple requests.
And we are Spanish native speakers so we don't get why they got all confused!

Room Tip: don't pick the first double room in the first floor... is terrible!

The best thing about this hostel is the view of Cuzco from the terrace. I enjoyed drinking the (free) coca tea on the terrace, basking in the sun to a great view. I also found the hostel to be a good place to meet other travellers. The location is great, although it may be difficult to climb up the stairs from the centre to reach the hostel, for travellers not yet accustomed to the altitude. The rooms were clean and basic, as can be expected from a hostel. The winter months get cold at night - there's no heating in the hostel, but the beds have thick blankets. A good choice for budget travellers.

The balcony offers wonderful views over Cusco, which you can enjoy while you eat breakfast or just have a drink in the afternoon. Rooms are nice and spacious, clean, and pretty well appointed. The kitchen is a little on the small side, and has a tendency to get a little grubby, but has everything you need to produce a decent meal. Staff are friendly and helpful. Location is great for the view, but be aware that you have to climb a long steep hill to get there from town, though in Cusco this is far from uncommon. WiFi is hit and miss in some rooms.
