Great hostel at San Blas area of Cusco (up hill but not impossible to get there, you might chew coca leave first). Fair breakfast and great staff. The city is a great place just to wonder and walk without a specific objective. Don't miss the typical dance show offered when you purchaise teh boleto Turistico.

Room Tip: Rooms of the second floor are quieter. The travel agent at the hostel is very good and has a fair...

Cusco: A lovely, if getting slightly hawker-heavy at times, city. Beautiful buildings with lots of places to eat (You have to try Jacks and Los Perros), San Pedro market is fantastic, there's a fantastic chocolate making course at Choco Museo and Cusco is a great base for exploration.

Positives About Samay Wasay:
+ The staff are really friendly and always willing to help.
+ James, the in-house tour agent, speaks good English and will offer good advice and help you book a variety of tickets without being pushy.
+ The hostel has fantastic views of Cusco.
+ The rooms and bathrooms are clean with hot water.
+ Wifi throughout.
+ After decorating a room below us the smell of paint came up into our room and they offered us a new room without us mentioning anything.
+ Free airport pickup.

Negatives About Samay Wasay:
- The rooms can get pretty cold. Ask about a heater.
- If using the laundry service make a note of what you have handed in. We used the service three times and once had to go back twice to pick up bits they forgot to put in our pile and another time a top went to someone else by mistake (They did get it back for us the next day though)
- Although only a short walk time-wise, it ks quite a walk uphill from the town centre. Maybe not for you if you find lots of steps difficult.

Would I recommend to friends: Yes. We stayed there on three seperate occasions!

I stayed at this hostel for the days before and after my Machu Picchu Trek. The women who work there are so sweet and accommodating. They let us leave our things there while we hiked and nothing was stolen. They had a small free breakfast and free tea service, but some of the rooms come with a free bigger breakfast that was delicious. They would deliver food or hot water to the room at any time and woke up really early several times to serve us dinner and help us with our bags.

The hostel is well worth the hike up hill. The view is stunning and there is a roof top porch and a glass wall breakfast room to enjoy it from. The staff is very helpful and friendly and offers free airport or bus pickup. The blankets on all beds are super warm and comfy! Continental breakfast is free and tea is available all day. They will even get you breakfast very early before you leave for the inca trail at 5 or 6 am. The WiFi is strong in the dorm room but weak elsewhere. There is a computer that you can use for free though. They will also store your luggage for free when you leave for a trek. The San blas area is very cool with loads of little shops and places to eat lining the narrow cobbled streets. Highly recommended for your stay in Cusco.

Free taxi service (either picking up or dropping off) and great correspondence leading up to the stay. Every employee was super friendly and it does have a nice view. Very small showers and mattress isn't exactly flat, but for $12.50 per person, you can't expect the best. Would recommend for those looking for a cheap place to lay their head.

For only US25 a night, you get a good night's sleep, warm water, decent wifi and great staff who attends to our needs including organsing taxi transfers, overnight luggage storage for Machu Picchu and buying bus tickets from Cusco to La Paz with no stops for US90.

We stayed in both double room and deluxe double room. Double room has a bigger bathroom which is better than the deluxe that has a TV and tea. The breakfast included is not clear and we think that scrambled eggs are included with your room rate but everything else on the menu is at extra cost.

It is a fair climb to the hostel and is recommended to rest on the first day of arrival in Cusco. The taxi will drop you off at the foot of the stairs and you will have to walk up about 15 steps to the front door. The view is serene at night at the balcony.

Room Tip: Request for second level. First level is the entrance and pathway which gets a bit noisy.

place was ok, not great. clean, but not great bathrooms and layout. had to walk up a huge hill and know now to take a taxi up everytime. if ur on a budget and dont mind being further from the main town, it's cool, but i would stay somewhere else next time.

Room Tip: taxi rides to and from this place are fun as heck. like a real life roller coaster
