Owner description: Enjoy the beautiful Andean landscape of Peru on board of a luxury and magical way to travel between Cusco and the Lake Titicaca. Travelling in the Andean Explorer is a unique experience, a route between mountains, clouds, snow-capped mountains and puna finishing in the majestic Lake Titicaca. Its coaches involve you in an environment extremely decorated with the elegant style of Pullman trains of the decade of 1920. Its tourist shows, the 5-fork lunch, dining cars, observatory-bar car outdoors, among other attractions.

What a fantastic trip and was one of our highlights of traveling round Peru. Service was outstanding the food was excellent and the train itself is reminiscent of Victorian splendour. Seats were very comfortable which was very welcome for the 10 hour journey. Viewing car is fantastic and allows for a great view over the terrain. Very highly recommended and much more pleasant than others that had taken the bus.

“Step back in time”

What a wonderful experience this is and definately recommended. These pulman carriages furnished with dark timber, brocaded ceilings and walls, linen cloths and table lamps, roses on the tables and large comfy armchairs make you feel like aristocracy. An excellent 3 course meal with wine included, musicians and dancers all make this 10 hour ride fly. We didnt want to get off. The only thing missing was Inspector Poirot!!
So far the highlight of the trip.Room to move in the last 2 cars with a bar and an open area. Train doesnt get faster than about 80 ks per hour.

“Gorgeous”

It would have been far quicker to go by bus, but doing so means missing out on a fabulous experience. The train is designed for comfort, the food is excellent (although the service was a little slow, particularly with drinks) and the entertainment in the bar really broke the journey up. The 10 hours flew by. Particularly interesting was the time through the market at Juliaca, when the market stall awnings had to be lifted out of the way of the train. My only comment - why do they have to serve the horrid Coca-Cola San Luis water?!

“Best deal ever!”

I took the train from Puno to Cusco and highly recommend this to other. You travel in first class with your own table, have an observation car, they include lunch and afternoon tea, a few free drinks and some entertainment. It is an 8 am to 6 pm journey with gorgeous scenery. Puno to Cusco is about $165 which seemed like an incredible value to me. The reverse direction costs more but is still well worth the money. The trip makes for a delightful and relaxing day.

“PeruRail - Expedition Train from Cusco to Agua Calientes”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2013

Taking the train from Cusco to Agua Calientes to see Machu Picchu. The seats are comfortable, snacks and coffee or beer is offered. The trip to Agua Calientes is about 3 hours long and takes you through the Andes Mountains. The views are breath-taking. You can easily take a cab from your hostal in Cusco to the train station. Should cost only S/.10 and if you know when you return you can make arrangements with the cab driver to come and pick you up and take you back.
