We just got back from Peru and rode the Andean Explorer from Cusco to Puno. The trip lasted about 12 hours. Apparently part of the track has some damage and they had to go very slowly through that section of track. The scenery was not as great as I had hoped for. The 3 course meal was a joke. Probably some of the worst food I have ever tried to eat. The pork chop was so tough and overcooked I actually had to discreetly spit out the one bite I attempted to eat. The vegetable lasagna my family had was equally awful. We were starving by the time we finally got to our hotel, about 9 PM. The bar car and observation car were occasionally fun and the service and staff were very good. If we had to do it over we would fly, hire a driver or skip this area of Peru completely. We thoroughly enjoyed the rest of our trip to Peru, the people and some of the best food we have eaten anywhere. The Andean Exlorer was a very long and disappointing journey, and I enjoyed it the most of anyone in our group.
We are really sorry for all the inconveniences that you may have on board the train, we are considering every comment that you made in order to improve our service on board.
Please accept our apologizes.
All the best,
