this placed used to be better and had some of the city's best adobo stew, but my, how it has gone downhill. the decor is lovely and amazing, and you still see the cusco elite going there, but they must be there for the status and not the food or service. went there with a group once and service could not keep up, and the entree plate with a bit of pork chop and apple sauce (tasting processed and not homemade) was just sad. the musical entertainment also did not inspire, and most in the group got out pretty quickly to go to bed.

We were dismayed when we checked Trip Advisor and saw that the restaurant and show that the travel agent had booked our group for, and which we had already paid for had HORRIBLE reviews on here. There were a few who simply didn't go! But we all really enjoyed it. The food was good, the service was good, if somewhat struggling to keep up. And the show was great! The musicians played straight through from 8pm to 9:30, and
The dancers came out for four dances. Everyone enjoyed the evening.

I came here based on a high recommendation from Frommer's. Frommers stated it was an institution of long-standing and raved about the place. If you like a mediocre tourist menu and like to participate in pseudo-folkloric dance with half-drunk bus tour diners then go for it. First, the food was just okay and they were out of a few items. Second, there was a weird sewer smell eminating from one of the rooms. Third, they charge for the cheesy show and fourth, the waiter, who ignored us most of the night to dote over a large group of Brazilians told us THREE times that the service was not included in the bill. He didn't stop by at all to find out how things were and we had to flag him down.

The restaurant title "EL Truco" translates to "The Trick". True to their name they tricked us.

The recruiter outside the restaurant showed us the menu, which looked ok. We went in and ordered. The restaurant puts out a show, which was nice.

Then the trick came with the bill. It included a charge for the show, no one at any time mentioned that there was a cover charge for it. When we asked them about it. The waiter pointed to a very tiny print at the bottom of the menu. We would have appreciated someone telling us that.

There are plenty of restaurants so don't let them trick you. We wished we had gone to Chicha on the second floor. Try the Inka Grill restaurant on the main plaza.

There are far better choices around the center that El Truco. The prices are high, the entertainment overdone, and the food is terrible. I never sent back a bottle of wine before in my life (thinking it's too prententious) until coming here.
