My husband and I previously arranged to have the 7 course "La Cena del Oro" pre-fixe dinner at the MAP Cafe several months before our visit to Cusco. They used to offer this meal in the Pre-Columbian Art Museum, itself, for $375 per person, but it cost only $125 per person to have it in the regular restaurant. And it was one of the most amazing meals we had in Peru--easily tied with our dinners at Astrid y Gaston and Central Restaurante in Lima. They don't advertise it or offer it on the regular menu, so you need to arrange for it in advance. But it is WELL worth the effort!

The restaurant itself is beautiful, in a glass box in the middle of the central courtyard of the Pre-Columbian Art Museum in Cusco. The courtyard lighting infuses the restaurant with ambience. Very dramatic, modern, and yet authentic at the same time.

The service was outstanding. The meal was tremendous. I would return to Cusco JUST for the chance to try La Cena del Oro again. Obviously, we did not order off the regular menu, but we did take notice of the meals the other diners were enjoying--and all looked very good and interesting. There is a 4 course pre-fixe which is on the menu, so perhaps that is the way to go if you have the appetite and haven't previously arranged La Cena del Oro.

All in all, La Cena del Oro is perhaps the best meal we've ever enjoyed for the money. The entire meal with wine and tip cost us less than $300--something that would have cost FAR more at any other Michelin 2 or 3 star restaurant, certainly.

Bravo. Unbelievably good in a country that has a very well deserved reputation for outstanding cuisine. Don't miss it.

An oasis of good food in this Cusco restaurant. Trained in New York Jorge Luis is one of Peru's most noted chefs. MAP café is housed in The Museum of Pre-Columbian art.
The menu is Peruvian and Andean focused. Will be a joy to those who enjoy good food.. Well done MAP

This restaurant was recommended by our tour guide and is just off of the main square. Our starters, main courses (salmon) and desserts were all delicious! The dining room is in a modern glass "cube" built in the courtyard of a colonial building/museum.

From the moment we sat down the staff, especially our waiter (John) took care of us. The menu is carefully laid out with Peruvian inspired dishes. Compliments to the chef for pulling together so many flavor profiles. The quino canaloies and adobe pork are a must have. The atmosphere was classy, quite and inviting-- a nice escape from the hassle a busy of the crowds, exhaust fumes and relentless honking of horns.

The desserts were simply amazing. The chocolate truffles comes witha nice surprise. Go check it out to find out what I am referring to.

All waiters we very friendly and helpful. We loved our waiter, John.

John, thanks for Summere's birthday dessert (tart). She is still raving about Map cafe and making her birthday a memorable one.
